Buying a 10th Anv...help
hey
my good friend has recently come into an opportunity to buy a 10th AE and is a little stuck on what he should offer for it First off the car... 12X,000 kms on original motor Original paint..in mint condition full Racing beat exaust streetported Short ram intake turbo timer hks ssqv blowoff valve manual boost controller Alpine alarm with all the goodies powerlocks perimiter..etc car runs 13.6 on the quarter with a 108mph trap speed at my high elevation at 3440 ft above sea level on 8.5 psi of boost The only problems he can see with the car are.. Windshield..cracked to shit Tires, maybe 20% tread left small dent in bottom of rear quarterpanel ...looks like a golf ball dent wiper switch is defunct little spec of rust under gas door the owner is a certified mazda mechanic who works at a local mazda dealership and has babied the car All scheduled maintanance has been done hes asking 8500 Cdn (about 6300 USD) im just asking for everyones input..is this a fair price ? any suggestions on what he should be paying? as i have seen AE's go for anywhere from 2000-10,000 on this site Thanks |
I paid $6000 for mine in 1999, w/105k. It was a Arizona car though, and had no rust. None. And it was pretty much stock-- even the radio. I live in Wisconsin, and have seen many "no rust" cars, whatever.... If they live up here, they have it. Even mine is starting to show it's 5 years up here, and I do not drive it from November to April, and only been caught in the rain a few times (I need help....)
Now that said, the extras you describe can be worth something if you don't try to justify that to having any worth as an AE collectible. For the most part, they're just another 88T2. So if you're after it for a fun to drive, somewhat unique ride, go for it. If you're thinking that it's going to hold it's value or actually appreciate, I think you're dreaming. Besides, that's my dream too.. There was a guy here some time back, worked at a dealer, and had a 10th up there. If it's his, I'd say it's probably well maintained and could be worth what he's asking. Good luck in your decision, Greg O. |
should be able to locate one cheaper / better ...
look around |
Too much IMO.

Honestly with those mods, and the fact that it is a 10thae I would pay the money for it. I would recommend trying to haggle it down a bit, but don't offer 1 grand for it.

That's way too much. I bought mine with 12k miles for $7500, which the car was in perfect condition too. I wouldn't pay anymore than $5000 for the car you're describing.

He's smoking crack.
I would pay...$4,000US max for the car, and reading all the little things wrong with it (cracked glass is a major pain to fix), I'd start at $2,000US as a starting offer and work from there. -Ted |
I bought my 10th AE for $3500US with 50 miles on a rebuilt motor that only had 40,000 miles on it before the rebuild. The car was immaculate. It was the deal of a lifetime. If you're thinking twice about it then maybe it's better that you just keep looking. It's still possible to find a good deal.

I'm just wondering. you said 12x,000 miles on stock motor but then you said that it was street ported?

Originally posted by Matt22 you make a good point. i didn't know they made stock streetported motors. I would pay that much for the car maybe 4g's US max |
Be a little wary of what he says. if you have a good rx7 shop near you have it checked out first.
