burning too much gas ?!

i know the rx7 burns oil but i think its burning too much gas i put on $10 at $2.49 and in 30miles it was all gone..is that normal ?

and i added a lil more oil to the engine, cause when i warmed it up and check the oil, the dip was LOW ? should it be done like that or dont worry about adding oil until the next oil change ?

thanks

Rule of thumb I follow, check your oil EVERY time you get gas. You'll always be burning oil unless you've removed your oil metering pump. And as for the gas, in my case, the fuel gauge doesnt always work correctly. If I were to fill up, it only goes to the 3/4 mark, but it does stay there for quite some time. Also, when I'm getting low, it could tell me I have half of a 1/4 tank, and then when I park and get back in to leave, now I have a fully quarter tank. Personally, I'd take a gas can with you for a ride, and see if its telling you the truth.

7 MPG is NOT normal unless you have the special HumVee Edition (in which case 7MPG is your highway mileage).

Confirm that your low oil sensor is working and you can stop worrying that you'll run dangerously low without knowing.
I check the level whenever I think about it and have the hood open- after three years I'm pretty familiar with my car's consumption rate (which is almost exactly what the FSM says it will be- 1 quart every 3k miles).

On a side note...I find the oil level kinda hard to read on the dipstick. The oil in a rotary doesn't immediately turn black like in a piston engine and clear oil on the silver dipstick doesn't show very well.
Still mulling over possible solutions to this...

Do not...I repeat.. Do Not trust that oil sensor for indication of low oil levels..In the rotary engine 1/3 or more of the cooling is done by the oil. Why in the world, you would risk oil starvation, possible toasted engine bearings, trashed housings, is beyond me.

...I personally like mine to burn little more oil, but I run the dog snot out of my car, so the more lubrication the better += less friction=more HP for the track.

My RX7s all dirty their oil much faster than any of my piston engines..not sure where the OP got his data from..

Use your dipstick Jimmy!!!:)

I got 165miles on a full tank (premixed), on mostly highway drive and occasitionally boosting.
Running about 11-11.5afr @idle, 13ish afr @ cruise (on5thgear) and 10ish afr @ wot.

So mine run a little rich...hence pretty sucks gas millage :)

Getcrazy hit the nail on the head. Does the gauge even work properly? Cause if your getting that kind of mileage your losing fuel elsewhere. I used to always use my odometer as a gas gauge. But that's just me.

I get 300 miles from a tank, give or take. When you open your hood do you smell gas? there is a rubber fuel line under the intake. that is is the one that will leak. it's always the hardest one to get to you know.

holy crap......11-11.5 at idle!!!!
I think thats a little too rich at idle lol, but I dont know your setup.

I get about 13-15mpg in the city in my n/a which I am being optimistic about lol

i need tune pretty bad... I only had 1 major dyno tuning (2yrs ago) for 2 hrs (and @ that time my hks wastegate decided to f' up). I am waiting for a haltech tuner to visit ontario (canada) again.

4 gallons of gas is too little when who knows how much is still left at "empty". Fill up several times, preferably fill it to full before the first measurement and at the last measurement, get the total gallons and the total miles, then get back to us.

Actually it does smell a lot like fuel when i turn on the car and inside the cabin it smells a lot...do you think it can be that fuel line...? Does that fuel line have a specific name...not too sure were it is located.
