burning smell
i've got an 87' GXL, and I just put on a new RB down pipe and presilencer, and I am now smelling s burning smell. I had driven it about a week, and then I did a donut, and I smelled burning rubber. The only problem, is that it wouldn't go away. I opened up my hatch and hood to try and vent it, but when my friends were following behind me, they said it smelled like burning. could this be a gasket, or something worse?

Check your exhaust system. If the rubber "beads" from the tires contacted the hot exhaust system, they probably melted onto the pipes/mufflers. Hardens when cool, the burns again when hot. The smell will continue until all burns off. Could even be some foreign item is on the exhaust.

Sounds like rubber is stuck to the exhaust. I had a trucker blow out a tire next to me on the interstate one day and couldn't help but driving over tons of rubber. I got home, and realized the car was smoking and I could smell it burning. Once the car was cold I tried cleaning off the exhaust but it was up in there, kept burning for a week.
