Burning a lot of oil
 

I just had my cats cut off, and custom 2 1/2 in. exhaust thrown under my ride ( ultra sexy) a lot better than the stock system. Anyways, Couple of tech questions. Number one, the tube that runs into my main cat from the air pump, What is it and what does it do? and second, my ride started blowing a surprisingly large amount of Oil out of the exhaust every time I shift or rap the engine up past 6 and a half Any help would be Awsome, Thanx.

that tube is called the split air tube and it supplies fresh air from the air pump to the cats. if you have an S4986-88) N/a you need to either wire open your auxilary ports or find some other way to make them function.

i was inspecting my system, and uh.. none of that is hooked up.. (86 n/a)

..soooo ports 5 and 6 havent been opening?

btw, i dont believe your oil blowing has anything to do with the line that runs from the cat..

well if it was not hooked up then your cats might be clogged and your ports might not be opening

is it NA or turbo??

blowing a surprisingly large amount of Oil out of the exhaust at higher rpm's is a sign that the oil control
rings are wearing out.

w/ the cats in the oil will be blocked...when u remove them you will see any and all smoke the car generates. get some motor honey (STP smoke treatment) as it will fill the gaps in your wearing oil control rings w/o any other effects to your car.

fill the gaps ? never heard that one before.
As the oil control rings wear their contact area with
the side housings increase, which lowers the contact
force per square inch, its this that allows oil past at
higher rpm,, there just isn't enough spring pressure
to hold the oil from passing the oil control ring.
This is why mazda specs say oil control rings need to be
replaced once they have worn more than .5mm
or.020 of a inch wide.
forgot to say if this is a turbo car it could be the reduced
back pressure on the turbo, but not sure on that one.

Sorry guys its an n\a. The engine has 141,000 Miles on it. Probably the oil control rings. I dont really feel like tearing into an engine that I dont really understand yet.
What are the 5 and 6th ports? Im quite fluent with cars, but not the rotary engine......... If someone could explain more about the rotary's "Ports" and their function, I would greatly appreciate it.

there are your basic 4 ports.. that all rotaries have

but the n/as in the FCs have 6 ports, 2 of which are "auxilary ports" that come on at roughly 3700 rpm.. brings more power..

there are sleeves that turn and face open to let air inside..

but my knowledge of them is also blurry.. different years use different "opening" methods

silverrotor has some type of setup that i would like to learn more about.. as far as i can remember from when i first met him anyways :) he was explaining it to Amur_ and i was a little too busy drooling over the clean and open engine bay :drool:

HOYT! your oil seals are bad. An engine rebuild will need to be dond soon.

Why don't you concider a Turbo swap? It won't cost too much more to turbo, than to have your engine rebuilt.
