burning bumper

i have an 86 n/a with full exhaust and no emissions. My prob is every time i shift or rev it up i get big flame balls out the exhaust. how do i fix this cus it keeps catching my bumper on fire lol .

Keegan 10-14-07 09:55 PM

a friend told me it was runing rich but i dont know how to fix this

Keegan 10-14-07 10:14 PM

just need it to stop cus this is the secend bumper i have put on the car.

texFCturboII 10-14-07 10:17 PM

well the problem is:
a) you've got a full exhaust
b) you've got no cats
c) you've got a rotary

to fix the problem, remove one of the above.
or get an AFC and lean it out a little bit (not too much, probably wouldn't help alot anyway and would lead to a blown side seal.)

Keegan 10-14-07 10:20 PM

that sucks cus thay are big. i can see them in the rearview mirror lol. it burns the paint

texFCturboII 10-14-07 10:39 PM

stock bumper? why don't you get a tip that extends further past the bumper?

Keegan 10-14-07 10:43 PM

thay do like an inch i would juts like it to not do this

texFCturboII 10-14-07 10:55 PM

man, that's the cheapest option IMO, or a longer muffler. bumpers sure aren't cheap.

rxmclaren7 10-14-07 10:57 PM

put a metal cat in!! also what kind of exhaust do you have??

Asterisk 10-14-07 10:59 PM

Umm, make a guard out of aluminum for it? Shit, that's funny is all I can say!

j0rd4n 10-14-07 11:05 PM

yea, like asterisk says, you might want to try an aluminum guard like i've seen on some vettes and vipers...else extend the tips way out back :D

13b_cookie_monster 10-15-07 01:40 AM

+2 on a bumper guard. or drive really slowly and at low rpms which would suck.

Mazdapunk87 10-15-07 01:52 AM

find out why you are running rich. maybe invest in an safcII to help controle that lil issue. when i had an n/a engine i did this too. same reasons. but i didnt complain. i loved it. i just hated that i could never see the flames

Hey, I'm in Oregon too. I gotta see this shit! :)

EDIT: we should also take some video and put it on youtube. :)

TehMonkay 10-15-07 04:02 AM

Make sure the AFM is level if you have an aftermarket intake.

Make sure you have NGK plugs.

Make sure you are running the right fuel pressure (around 43.5 PSI)

Make sure the plug wires are good.

Make sure the injectors arent leaking.

That should be plenty enough to keep the flames down on an NA to keep the bumper from catching fire.

If not, i'm gonna' say get one of those turn pipes and clamp them onto the ends of the tips until you can figure the problem out. Just dont shift or rev the engine near any oil spots, hah.

V8slayer 10-15-07 08:17 AM

double check you TPS and make shur its set good , it will probly get rid of alot of it

Keegan 10-15-07 08:01 PM

incubuseva 10-15-07 08:56 PM

There's a really good write up on how to adjust it, just search for it.

You should post vids of it too!!
