Bump Steer Tie Rod End Options
So when depowering the power rack i found that my outer tie rod ends are not in good shape. Since the car is lowered and and none of the bushings are stock I figured I might as well get a pair of bump steer adjustable tie rod ends to complete the package.
My question is does anyone have any experience / recomendations as to which ones to go with? So far I've found the mazdatrix ones: http://www.mazdatrix.com/SteeringAngle.htm and these "kazama" ones on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ME:X:AAQ:US:11 Leaning towards the mazdatrix ones because I have ordered from them alot in the past and their stuff is always high quality (plus the finish should match the neighboring sway bar endlinks, lol). Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
Completely serious...what's bumpsteer? I'm thinking it's when you give opposite lock to slide sideways or correct a spin...but how do these help?

going off mazdatrix's reputation I'd say go with them, too, but I don't have first hand experience. all the parts I've bought so far were either from other members or a local parts store.

PF santos, you can read all about bump steer on alot of suspension forums or books... there is a decent thread here relating more to FC's as well:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=bump+steer But put simply bump steer is a term that relates to suspension geometry. Basically the front tires slightly change direction upon suspension movement without the steering wheel moving. Due to the geometry between the steering rack, front hub, a-arm, and the scrub radius of the suspension the front tires in fact may slightly steer when the suspension moves without any change in steering input. |
Thank you. Makes sense...steering rack and tie rod don't follow parallel as the wheel moves up and down... I feel like a neeb for asking...but I've learned something. Will read up on that thread...

Happy to lend some info :D. I have heard that a company called "SuperNow" (sp?) makes these but have googled to no avail... anyone know if this comany is still in business and if they showcase their products online?

Yes the Super*Now parts are still available, in fact all the other companies you listed modeled them around the Super*Now kit , Kazama however contracts Super*Now to make their products.
BTW what year FC do you have an more importantly what steering rack are you running? Here are a few generic pics of their tie rod end kits, one is just the bumpsteer adjustable tie rod ends, and the other includes the spacer for increased steering angle. |
I am running a manual rack (think they only made manual racks from 86-88). Those kits look gorgeous! Where can I order them from? Thanks alot for the pictures by the way.

The manual rack uses a different right tie rod, so the spacers might not work, but the bumpsteer ends should.
But before spending money and just installing them you should measure it to make sure you've actually got a problem, then measure after and adjust to make sure you're not making it worse. |

It "felt" like I had a problem, but the suspension is apart right now anyway and I figure that I might as well throw these in... if nothing else the bearings are a better design than stock... the adjustment is also great. Called mazdatrix today and their kit will work with the manual rack so unless someone tells me where I can buy those amazing looking supernow kits im gunna be putting through an order with mazdatrix.

the mazdatrix steering angl kit is sick! i believe it adds 10 degrees and every other i've seen is like 7 degrees. dunno for sure. but if your into drifting at all i suggest the kit heavily.
