BS CA smog failure questions
Went to rusty's today to get my smog check.
Results: Emissions: PASS, running VERY clean. Visual: PASS Functional: EGR broken, fail So now I have to go in there and pull off my plenum , find an EGR and replace it. The mechanic admitted to me that the EGR doesn't do much in a rotary and that it's a BS california law thing, in addition to the car running very clean for a rotary. Anyone know where to start looking for an EGR? I checked mazdatrix and they don't carry them. Anyone done this job before and have any advice or cautions for me? Thanks, TW P.S. I hate california |
i would try pick and pull. The egr only work when you are cruising.
|
Curious, how did they test your egr? Each time I got my 1986 one tested( 3 different places), the EGR would come up as a non testable item on their computer screen. I didnt have one since I was running a s4 t2 center plate, but these guys were very meticulous with everything else they needed to do.
Very odd |
it would be really nice if it was non-testable, because if it was I would pass.
Maybe instead of digging through my car I should go to the CA DMV and ...politely enquire about it. |
Junk it?

Did you pm wackyracer?
|
no, I don't want to take time away from wacky, I'll leave him the time to help the people who REALLY need it.
|
Just take it too another smog place.
The only way to test it, is too disconnect it from the vac line and see if the engine stumbles. 75% of the places won't test it, they will just visual it. |
just get it done illegaly
|
Tim, PM me. I'm in SC and can help. ;)
|
I guess you got it done?
I set it all up with my bro for you yesterday, but you never responded to my PM. |
Man, I love how Cali rotary heads hook each other up!
|
I sent you a PM, natey.
