which broke which?
ok, so im playing around with a gt on the hwy and goosed it at about 85 to pass em, then i hear a ugly metalicky sound and suddenly i have a loss of power and a louder exhaust. So i take it to mitchems auto here in my town and he compression tested it front 90 90 90 , rear 75 35 35 so which broke which? cat broke or rotor 1st ? or does 1 have nothing to do with the other and i have bad luck? ps its a 90 gtu
heheh time for a rebuild
dat's not funny...
rotor broke the cats, the apex seals have to go somewhere and the cats are basically a ceramic type of material in a honeycomb shape that get damaged easily.
the louder exhaust might be more associated with the fact that it is running on one rotor rather than both though, usually when one rotor fails the engine sounds like a pissed lawnmower. |
ok another ? if the cat is busted and leaking exhaust, would that make the car run really rough sometimes? sometimes is the key word here, sometimes it runs alright sometimes not
hmm, are you sure he did the compression test accurately?
you could just have an exhaust leak, yes exhaust leaks can cause idle fluctuations, especially if the cat plugged itself up. |
could it be the springs dying on part of the rotor,? it seems to smooth out if i run it at higher rpms poorly at low rpms and idle can jump up and down at different times
no im not sure he did a proper test cause he also switched my plug wires around now i am not sure which one goes whre my friend has 1st gens tried to put them right but im not sure hes right eithr
hep meh pweez
possible, if the springs were overheated they could have collapsed causing low compression.
if you look at the leading and trailing coils you will see marks on the housings "L1, L2, T1, T2" now look at the rotor housings where the spark plugs sit, there is embossments in the rotor housings "L and T"(Leading is the lower, Trailing the top) the forward housing is #1 and the rear is #2, match the wires to their respective location. |
thank you very much, i'l check it tomarrow some other things i can tell you that might help it has 260,000 on a never rebuilt or replaced motor does not smoke but has a minor oil leak in the very front of the motor itself
also is there a difference between the internals on the gtu vs another na 90 ? asking since i know the yr is very rare
np, the engines are the same and your engine is probably tired and decided to call it quits. that is usually about the max you can push out of an original motor.
yep
better do another comp test.... its not funny but its probly true oh well.. rotary life ...what do ya expect? |
