Breaking in a New Rebuild

What are some necessary precautions to take to ensure that your newly rebuilt 13B NA engine breaks in properly, to avoid unnecessary wear or damage to it?

Thanks in advance

what kind of rebuild is it? new rotor housings? used rotor housings?

if it has new rotor housings and new apex seals, i would change the oil at 20 miles, 100 miles, and at 200 miles, change the oil again, and drive it normally.

rebuild? the same, but instead of 200 miles, make it 500, then after 1000 miles, start driving it normally.

that's a bit excessive, i recommend doing them at 500 and 2000 regardless of what is used, unless you are a slob and toss mud in the pan with your rebuild.

do you really think an oil change every few hundred miles is worth it? similar to spending $12 a quart on royal purple?

the oil filter has a purpose.

it's a waste of money for what? the material that sheds off the new bearings is not really that harsh, it's a very soft babbet material which even if it winds up someplace else will not hurt anything.

2 oil changes during break in is perfectly fine IMO.

i have also seen people at the store buy cases of royal purple for their honduh with a "CAI" and fart can, i just shake my head and felt dumber for seeing it. they could have just handed me $50 and bought some regular old castrol and never even been the wiser.

When I built my motor I changed the oil at 200 miles. Regular old Castrol GTX. Housings were good condition used parts. Then I changed it at 1200 miles after that.

Okay, thank you for all of your replies. It seems as if frequent oil changes are necessary during break in. I'll be sure to keep that it mind. Are there any restrictions you should take in actual driving (keeping it under a certain rpm?)?
