brakes soft

here is my problem:

Master cylinder is full

when car is off, builds pressure as the FSM says it should

When the car is on, the pedal touches the floor on slow braking, but when applied quickly is less spongy by still soft

heres where it gets good.

If i take off the check valve to the vacuum pump, and i hold the car at 2000rpm (so it doesnt stall), i build pressure like the car is off.

If i turn off the car and step on the brakes and turn it back on, i get pressure for all of 20 seconds before it touches the floor again.

If i put up the ebrake, and pump, i get pressure while the car is on

so. Is my booster screwed? or what arg!

thanks

i've figured its not my booster

and i hope it isnt the master, i just replaced it 6 months ago

did you install a NEW master cylinder or a rebuilt one? If you're not losing any fluid, the system's bled properly, and the booster's good, what else could it be?

trying bleeding the system, sounds like you have air in the system.

it is a new master, i'm gonna try bleeding again

i know i have a slight (read: very very slight) leak coming somewhere from my ABS, but it was never enough to creat such a huge loss of pressure

WAYNE88N/A 03-17-04 09:21 PM

ahhh, didn't know you had ABS- that's a whole new level of complexity you gotta troubleshoot (internal leakages?)
