Brake pad v clips

I just replaced a caliper and set of brake pads due to the caliper locking up and I came across a little dilemma. I couldn't put the v clips into the pads without them popping off when i tried to install the pads. So I just said the hell with it and tossed them aside for now. Does anybody have any tips on how to install them? Oh, and by the way it's the rear pads on a gxl.

V Clips or V Springs?

If the latter, just takes a little patience.

I think clips but could be a spring. I left them out cuz i was in a hurry to finish my homework but thursday i'll give it a second try.

It sounds like you are talking about the springs that push the pads apart (away from the rotors) they are v-shaped, and have a circular cross section.

Which brake package are you referring to, 4 piston front calipers?

Assuming you are talking about the rear (because this caused me the most trouble on my 87 GXL, and because the fronts are less v-shaped and more "W" or "M" shaped) the easiest way I found to get and keep them in place is to install one of the caliper bolts, pivot the caliper + cage away from the rotor, install the pads, rotate the caliper, cage and pad assembly back into place on the rotor, bolt the other side of the caliper on, and then install the spring clips.

Glad I could help! I tried so many different methods of getting those little buggers in there, rubber bands, silicone RTV, you name it.
