brake bleeding issues
 

just replaced brake master cylander, went to bleed the brakes (first time on this car) unscrewed the bleeder, when screwing it back in i noticed the caliper was stripped. Any suggestions to help get my bleeder screw back in the caliper would be appreciated.

You need to pull the caliper, drill out the hole one size up, re-tap the hole you just drilled, and then get a bleeder screw to fit those threads you just made.....

Before you go and drill a huge ass hole i would just retap it.. Clean up the threads and try it.
Also maybe add some of that white tape, i forget the name... Put some of that tape on the threads and will probably be fine.

Will it still tighten down and seat?

BTW, SAiamNE, it's teflon tape, good call, but I don't know if it would be compatible chemically with that nasty-ass brake fluid. It's also gonna be hard to get a normal tap to do much- it's gonna bottom out on the flange down in there probably. You could use a special "bottoming" tap, but what are you gonna do about the microscopic shavings that get down in there?

I don't think a heli-coil's gonna work either with the fluid pressures the brake system has.

i hope the helli-coil works cause its already half done (drill ran out of battery). we will see.

Well, in that case, let us know how it turns out. It would be the first time in my 20 year mechanic career that I've seen a heli-coil in a fluid circuit...

didn't work for me. it was a combination of my not using a drill press (so the new hole was a little loose) and just being tired and frusterated. Even if I could have gotten the bleeder screw all the way in, i doubt that it would have completed the seal, because things were getting pretty messy. I would not recommond using the heli-coil to anybody, but it still could be possible, and is a good final attempt.
