BOV Question == Kinda Long
Alright, So I installed a Typhoon Type 3 BOV, Or a TCC Type 3, they can be found on ebay if you search quite a bit, its an open atmosphere BOV. I mounted it onto the stock pipe thats after the black L bend from my top mount, as it goes down into the turbo. I plugged the hole in my intake and the car seems to have no problems accepting the new blow off valve. A few days ago, i was doing some work and I did NOT close the L joint from intercooler to BOV pipe, and I left it open, and when I would drive my car, It would drive fine and the BOV sounded like it was supposed to except the vacuum leak I had created wouldnt let my car idle, which was to be expected and not a suprise, so I fix the leak i had left open and now the BOV sounds like a turkey gobbling, I have tightened it, and loostened it, and the same sound all the time, is there something else I might try to get the BOV working properly? Its supposesed to be a swoosh, but its not......
On a side note, when I installed this new BOV, much much much faster spooling, and Im holding much much more boost, I used to be like below mid level on the stock boost guage, now Im hitting the "+" near the "+ 40" on the guage, and its like a new car, all because of a BOV?? Any suggestions? |
Wait a minute. turkey gobbling? Kinda like a whippling noise? If thats the sound then the answer is simple. your BOV isnt working. That sound you are hearing is the turbo back spinning and the trapped air escaping.

try to get a picture up
Do you have the vac line secure on the bov and the vac source (manifold)?

Hmm...yes, its a whippling noise, I will throw up a pic from ebay....
How much can a turbo back spin before its severly damaged? Cuz i drive like im on fire most the time....
I am going to do an experiment and put my video camera in my engine bay and see if the gates are opening...lol
Switched Vacuum lines with boost sensor, no difference, Is this because my stock BOV used to throw air into my intake? and when I used to have my IC pipe off it would just throw it out? I used my video camera and the gates arent opening, so I loostened it a whole bunch and still gates arent opening, however when I loostened the BOV im not getting as much boost as when its near its tighest, so im leaking boost somewhere???
Sounds like it you are. The vacuum signal to the BOV. Where do you have it coming from?
I have the vacuum line to the top of the BOV from the stock vacuum line, that was attached to the stock BOV.
This BOV doesnt re-circulate air like the stock would, when the stock opens it would have pushed air into my intake, but not with this bov, i dont know if thats part of the problem but i know there IS a problem...lol... |
as long as the vacuum line to the BOV is not leaking, and is connected to the manifold after the TB, then it's correct. Check for other vacuum leaks maybe.
If you have a friend with an aftermarket BOV see if you can borrow it. Maybe your BOV just crapped out? In any case, try to avoid boost until you get it working again. |
you've got more power probably because your stock BOV was an old leaking hunk of crap. that much is for certain.
Yea I'm beginning to think you bought a faulty BOV. Did that thing have a warranty on it?
See, the BOV does work, it does but only when i had the IC pipe venting openly into my engine bay......It didnt have a warranty as I bought it from a guy off a forum. I have heard it work on my car tho, only when the IC pipe was off....
ive probbably been back spinning my turbo at or near 12 psi for nearly a week, i just thought i didnt produce enough boost to make it swoosh, and then when i had been working on it and it did swoosh i decided to investigate a little more

Try to look past my 3rd grade artistry and let me know if my 2 ideas will work.
1. Y-pipe the BAC tube and send 1 side to Intake 2. Add another opening and run directly into intake. Now the Stunning visuals.... http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...8/fb6ab0b2.jpg |
