Bottom engine oil gasket leak-big deal or no big deal?

Hey everyone! Hope someone can give me some help, I'm looking at a 1990 rx7 convertible that has had the engine replaced 10K miles ago. It looks like there's oil seeping from the very bottom gasket. Is anyone familiar with this gasket, and how big of a deal is it to fix?

I don't want to buy the car then find out it needs a new engine.

Any help would be appreciated!!!
Thanks!
Suzy

It's not a big deal but here is what your dealing with...

Think to yourself for a minute...

With an oil leak your going to have a leak every where and will mess up and dirty your drive way...

It's an easy fix but is time conssuming to drop the bottom oil pan, replace the gasket and then tighten down all the bolts...

Engine performance will not be effected...but the cost to keep refilling the oil will start to get anoying on the pocket...

Whats the price your paying for the car?

So to sum it all up...if your talking about the bottom oil pan then no the oil leak is not a big deal...if you can deal with the constant mess is all

Thanks for the replies!

They're asking $5600 for it, but I've got them down to $4500, I think I'm going to offer 4K cash and see.

They did alot of work on it themselves including a rebuilt engine, celanoids, fuel pump, brakes, etc, etc. the body has 61K the engine 10K.

I had a 91 and it was the best car I ever owned, haven't found anything to compare, but that one had ongoing issues with the suspension/brakes and exhaust so we got rid of it. I've been kicking myself ever since (3 cars later and STILL not happy!)

So we found this one, the front fender needs some attention but otherwise it is in nice shape, interior is excellent, the guy didn't even know that the targa folded down on the roof, he's been removing it and putting it in the house for the last 5 years.

thoughts/recommendations? If anyone can recommend a local mechanic here in central NJ please let me know!!!

Thanks again!
Suzy
