Boost/Wastegate Bolt

Hey, Just curious but when should the turbo start making boost? Mine starts at around 3k-3500.

Also, the bolt that is on the back of the wastegate that holds the long tube on that goes around to the back of the engine.......I noticed it was loose so I tightened it up and it the bolt broke.

I noticed the bolt wasn't normal as in it had a hole in going through it up by the top of the bolt. Question is can I just use a normal bolt or do I actually have to try and track down one of those same bolts?

Here is a pic of the bolt

Thanks,

that's a banjo bolt. air or fluids travel through that it's probably there for a reason. Were there copper crush washers on it?

lol, there were until it broke then they fell down onto the plastic underside. Have to find those as well.

Are you sure that you tightened a bolt on the wastegate actuator, or did you tighten a bolt on the twin scroll actuator?

By around 3500rpm you should be seeing full boost. Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge or just the stock one? If it's just the stock peice then depending on the gear you should be seeing positive pressure below 3k, but not necessarly a lot.

I believe its the bolt actually on the twin scroll. The bolt holds on the tube that goes from the front of that cylindar that attaches to the exhaust manifold. The tube goes from there, back under the engine and up the backside to a spot on the vaccum nest.

I have a regular bolt in that place now and it seems to boost a lot better but unsure if it will harm the turbo or the engine.

So will it hurt anything if I just have a regular bolt in its place basically blocking the air passage? or do I need to find another banjo bolt for the twin scroll?
