Boost Controller Help Needed.
 

I am looking for good manual boost controller.
Wondering what others have used and what works good. Or what does not work... lol

any is good for a while but they usually go bad now and then.:rolleyes: i had a nice turbo xs boost controller and it broke, stopped working and a friend with his ebay one is over a year old.:dunno:

so what are you doing for fuel to back the boost up with

Just had stock injectors cleaned and put in a denso supra pump with a rewire done, since in my opinion the winnybros are junk...
I also have AFR gauge and at 7 psi which is what i boost with the my open exhaust and port job i did on the wastegate, it reads in the 11's all the way up to redline.
So I plan to up the boost a little at a time till maybe 9-10 psi max. See where my AF's sit then...

Hallman makes some high quality MBC's. I never liked the turbo XS.

jus get the apexi avc-r...you can choose how much boost you want per gear...unlike a MBC it's stuck to one setting the whole time (I think)

thats the boost controller I was planning on getting...but I might be changing my plans soon

The AVC-R has a steep learning curve. You better understand exactly how boost control systems work if you want to take full advantage of it. I have discussed its control logic in some 3rd generation sections, it is similar to a Power FC's boost control functions but a lot more adjustable.

That's what I have and I added the remote cable to adjust from inside the cabin. No problems works great.

I found a Turbosmart manual controller for a good price.
Any experience with these?

I'll add in another vote for Hallman. I bought their MBC with ceramic ball kit (Hallman Pro RX). It hands down outperforms the turbo xs model that was on there before (and eventually stopped working).

Turbosmart has kind of a hybrid ball-and-spring/bleeder valve design from what I have seen, I'm not sure if it's any better than the others.

I did a little reading on that Hallman Pro RX. That looks like a nice piece, I may end up going with it. It says it is fine tunable, how fine can you tune it?

It comes with two springs, one for finer adjustment and a heavier one for larger adjustment. I have the heavy spring in and get about 1 psi increase per complete turn of the adjustment knob.

so how would you guys recomend setting one? Start will it really loose and tighten it slowly until you get an increase in pressure? Then slowly until you get pressure where you want it?
I have never used a manual boost controller...

1. Start backed all the way out so you are running off of the wastegate only.
2. Tighten down the boost controller in small increments and check/adjust tune at each setting until satisfied.
3. Repeat 2 until at desired boost level and state of tune.

You got it, trial and error, a littlle at a time.

sounds good. Out of curiosity has any one had any luck with a homemade controller, like a brass T bolt spring little ball and a couple fittings for the vac line? Or one of those cheap ones on ebay?
