Blue/white smoke??!@ in TII

When driving my 87 TII, under hard acceleration, when i let off the gas, blueish white smoke pours out of the exhaust. I only have about 12,000 km's on my engine, and the car is stock except for exhaust. Does anybody know what this is?i can't distiguish the smell of it, but almost smells like candle wax? It only happens at higher rpm's when i let off the gas. It was happening not very often till a couple days ago. Now it happens almost every time I give er' sh*t! Someone help!

I may be mistaken, but isn't blueish smoke a sign of oil burning?

Is your turbo still original? Might want to check that out, since your engine is new....

High engine vacuum is probably sucking oil past the oil seals.

I can't see how engine vacume would assist in bringing oil past the seals in a turbo...

Unless your running a suck through carb setup.. which is quite unlikely in this case :)

Well, yes my turbo is original. I actually have a t04, but am waiting for another $4000 to get everything else to put it in. You guys think this is the cause?(214,000kms on car)

Yes, there is a very good chance it is you turbo that is causing the smoke screen behind you.

However, it isn't to do with engine vacume :)
It's just because of shear old age, or abuse ;) i'd say that the seals have worn out.

I guess this is good news seeing as I have a replacment. Will this problem worsen, or remain basically the same?

White_FC 09-25-03 09:58 PM

Yes it will definatly worsen, big time, my last S4 turbo started doing this, then maybe a week? or so later the shaft bent and the compressor wheel started hitting the housing, NOT a good look.. :(
Luckily no big chunks came off and got inhaled by the engine.. the engine is still running fine today.. but just be careful, you might not be so lucky :)

Thanks for your help. I guess I only have about a month of driving left in the year. I'll have to really save my cash to get that new t04 in by spring!
