Blown Motor?

Hey guys.

Recently I have been having troubles with my car. It is a 1986 GXL. It wouldnt start one day and after compression testing both rotors (front was at 30, back 40) i figured the engine was pooched. Is there any definate way of seeing if the engine is finished? Sorry for hte stupid question, i am not very inept with these motors.

Actually, it sounds like you may be very inept with these engines. Just kiddin.

Did you test the engine hot? Did you hold the throttle wide open? Did you use a conventional tester, and if so, did you hold the needle down or remove the Shrader valve?

I dont see how any car could run with that low of compression, and i bet it would be insanely slow.

Eh, you'd be surprised just how *well* a rotary will run on a completely blown motor.

And hanman, even if it was a conventional tester, those 30 and 40's would be the highest number on each rotor, which would still lead to his motor being shot.

If the motor was warm, and you held the throttle wide open, consider it dead. Oh and by the way, with it cold, it will show HIGHER numbers. Closed throttle might show 10-20psi lower numbers. Nonetheless, your motor is done.
