Blown engine.

Hey guys-

Checked compression with a regular compression checker. Front rotor 92psi( and sounded really strong using the ghetto method). Rear rotor I get nothing. So I have blown the apex seal?

What are my best options...ie rebuild kit, buy a rebuilt, sell the car. What did other people do?

its an 88gxl na S4

Thanks

well, if you have a garage and tools... pull the motor and tear it down... if your lucky, the rear apex seals may just be stuck or the springs broke and your housings may still be good.

www.Rotaryaviation.com rebuild kits are about 550 for a basic kit or about 850 for a full kit. (corner seals and rotor oil rings with full kit).

a new housing is about 450-500 bucks.

Its up to you, but if the car is in good shape, i'd get a new motor or do a rebuild

Well-

I have the garage and tools (minus maybe a hoist/stand) but limited rotary knowledge. I have experience rebuilding various other engine types but not sure how much of that experience will be applicable.
The car is in good shape, I have had it 8 years and only drive it in the spring/summer and love it. I just dont want to get in over my head.

i think that you will do just fine. just do some research and grab like a haynes manual. hell when i got my 7 i didn't know shit about them and then a week later the engine blew. so from there i have swapped with a new one and now i am planning on rebuilding the old one and porting it.
