Blow Off Valve question!

I have the apexi bov that sounds not high pitched but more of a small explosion, my friend just got the HKS one in his mr2 and it was really high pitched sound, I was wondering if i bought the greddy type s or another high pitch bov could i change them from one to another easily, so like say one month i use the apexi and other month i want something different. but anyways just wondering if id have to do to much work to do the change so often. :) thx for any info.

Tony Ps. dont post if ur just here to hate ',..,'

CyborgRyu 03-16-06 09:06 PM

i know, sell your car and buy one that has the hks ssqv

DirkyDirka 03-16-06 09:13 PM

lol why would i need to sell my car to get that :P do u have any clips of how that one sounds? cause i really like how mines not really high pitched but its loud and mean sounding..but after hearing a few others i sorta like the high pitched thats why i was wondering if i can switch them back and forth easily or some what easy.

they use different flanges. but if you use the kits which give you the pipe and the flange to fit on a stock ic layout - then its not much work just to swap out those pipes.

my greddy type S isnt really high pitched at 12lbs. more of a whooooshhhh...
of course its adjusted all the way soft on the spring...ive yet to get it to sound how i want but its the last thing on my list....:)

DirkyDirka 03-16-06 09:17 PM

how does the greddy type s sound, i know alot of people who say they have them on here, if it sounds real mean and would scare people, ill prob buy it, i like mine but its time for something new :) i also wanna buy a new turbo timer i got the apexi one atm but idk...dont like the dinky pen look O_O

88rxn/a 03-16-06 09:25 PM

i love the sound of it...im gonna piss with it tommorow and see what i can get out of it...at stock boost it was the "schreech" i think it sounds great!!! i bought it used and i thought i had problems with it but i just hooked the vaccum in the wrong spot....

That HKS SS is irritating as fu**...
All the WRX's down here like to run them...real loose.
They sound like chirping birds going down the street.

i had a blitz and now i have a greddy. the blitz was a monster. it sounded great. only bad thing was it leaked vaccum. so i ended up with a greddy. its high pitched but not as great as the blitz.

DirkyDirka 03-16-06 10:52 PM

YA thats what the hks is sorta like a bird chirp, see the apexi not many people have and it doesnt chirp it just like combusts and makes like a mini explosion and i love that, but the high pitch powerful sound is also very cool thats why i was asking if u can chance the bov's from one to another easily so i can just like have a diff one on whatever days i want =]

to listen to different BOV's go to blowoffvalve.net lots of different kinds of BOV

88rxn/a 03-17-06 12:48 AM

there is about 4 turbo'ed cars near me!!! me included...nobody ever knows what the hell it is...its freakin funny watchin them jump in town....the town is a small 2 lane with many brick buildings and my exhaust echos and the bov scares everyone...its so much fun...

SureShot 03-17-06 08:54 AM

What's the big deal?
I don't care how the BOV sounds, as long as it's not too loud and doesn't create compressor surges.
My e-bay cheapo works just fine.

When I feel like making noise, I open up the header dump & lay on the boost.
You ain't hearin nothin after that!

I would stick with the Apexi, I like the clean low swoosh.

DirkyDirka 03-17-06 02:24 PM

ya wankler i like the apexi one sounds real good was just thinkin of others since i havent heard all the others, =]

First gen man 03-17-06 02:44 PM

i think as far as a great mix of performance and sound the GReddy type s kicks ass.

as far as pure performance, tial 50 mm's and apexi twin chambers.

hey guys,

i have a noob question about installing an aftermarket BOV vent to atmo.
before i had a DSM Turbo, and had no need to install an aftermarket BOV cuz the stock unit is pretty heavy, there were also much of problems with installing aftermarket bovs cuz of recirculation.
so i wonder how it works on a FC? just plug and play? do i need to modificate something?
i dont really want a BOV because its cool, and makes some noises. a decent one venting to atmosphere would be nice. oh and.. i really dont like this chirping HKS types..

thanks in advance :)

RX710thAE 03-25-06 10:10 PM

are most BOV out there just simple plug n play installation? or does some require welding.....

charge 03-26-06 12:03 PM

oh man, its really annoying, ppl post like crazy on threads about the "BOV SOUND", but cannot write only 1 or 2 lines for answer :(

BoostedRex 03-26-06 01:31 PM

Charge, the FC is a MAF system just like the DSM. You will hit rich spots when you vent the BOV to atmosphere, but it won't hurt anything. Most stores sell the FC specific kit as well so it would be a couple of hose clamps and two bolts for the BOV flange.

first, thanks for answer :)

second, so i can build in a bov without any bad effects to engine? just want to go sure.. i want to keep my fc for a long time
