blow by?
I have an 87 t2 with a brand new ported atkins motor and new upgraded stock turbo....i got the car running and drove it for about 100 miles and it developed a smoke problem so i assumed it was the turbo oil lines because the oil was smokeing on the turbo but i pulled the turbo off and it looked like it was leaking from the rear turbine seal so i took it back and they went over it and put a new seal in but they said that there was nothing wrong with it and they think i have blow by and the oil pan has to much pressure witch does not allow the turbo to drain and that makes it push oil out the seals.....has anyone had this problem with a new motor?

you need better crankcase ventilation as well as probably some sort of oil restrictor if they took the stock one out wich they do on most occations when upgrading the stock turbo.

i do have a catch can....is this a common problem with new motors? and where can i get a restrictor if they removed mine?

brian with bnr welds the oil feed line shot on the turbo side then drills a pretty small hole in the weld and then grinds the weld down to be perfectly flat so that you can put the oil feed line back on just like it used to be but now with a small little oil feed line.

that sounds like a good idea but my turbos already been rebuilt so that would kinda be a pain...someone told me to put a flange on that has a male end on it and run a stainless steel line with a inline restictor on it but i havent had any luck fining the parts i need..has anyone done that?

you can be ghetto and drill out a nitrous jet to oh say .040" or so, depends on the turbo, smaller for dual ball bearing chra's.

i looked at the link and i was wondering if anyone knows what all im gonna need to be able to install that on the feed line maybe even a list with the adapter size and everything....seems like im gonna need a few more parts to make that restrictor work

Don't go under .070" or else you'll be sorry. Garrett Suggest .085" for T3 application. Under .070" longevity will be greatly affected.

oh ok i thought at first you ment weld the hole on the turbo itself not the oil line but now that makes sense. thanks alot for the tips...

Maybe someone can explain why the following could/could not be done:
Remove the oil feed line. Insert a piece of say .020" thick aluminum b/t the mating surfaces of the oil feed flanges. Sort of like a gasket b/t the two flanges but with a .085 hole in the center for the oil feed. Done. No welding. Or am I missing something here?????? |
