Block weld question.....

Ok I am going to try and do the block weld on an S4 that I have here but in the procedure it says to use this degreaser but I couldn't find any liquid degreaser at the local parts stores. Has anyone done it succesfully without the degreaser?

The Block weld is definitely a last ditch effort--Kinda like putting rubber bands around your tires hoping it will extend the life of your tires.

to answer your question--I am rebuilding my motor right now.

I am aware the procedure is a band aid. I didn't ask if it was a good way to fix it or permanent. I just asked about the degreaser.

On topic answers please.

I've found the Purple Power mentioned in the write-up at Pep Boys.

thanks bro. thats were I screwed up. I stay away from pepboys for being too much of a ricer store. I guess i'll have to suffer and go in for some powda!

I like autozone engine degreaser, works well.

brake parts spray cleaner will remove any grease, and get you dizzy if you use too much

I would not use brake degreaser. Any of the purple stuff at autozone or pep boys will work. I ran my old N/A motor for a year and a half thanks to the block weld(I ended up doing it 3 times). I was saving up for my turbo swap. By far the hardest part is getting all the degreaser out of the system. Oh yea and if it didnt seem to work the first time put more block weld in and drive it for a little while and let it sit overnight again until its totally sealed. The how to i read stated that it wasnt necessary to drain it out when it was finished but it was wrong. I've gone through 6 waterpumps in the process. That stuff kills the waterpump's eventhough it says its "waterpump" safe (thank god for lifetime warranty's)
