blinker issue

ok...my left blinkers work fine, even the signal idicator light on the cluster comes on.

My right blinkers on the other hand do not work and the indicator light does not flash on the cluster....i pulled the front and rear bulbs and put a circut tester to them and no power....but i hear the flasher relay clicking really fast. i heard that this means a broken ground??? so could i just cut the ground off the connector and ground seperately???

What happens if you turn the HAZARD's on? Indicator lights work now on both sides?

fedede10 10-06-08 07:54 PM

ok, i have the same problem but with the left side, i've done the same tests and i got the same results. so i figured a faulty switch, so i bought one and it seemed to work fine for a while and then it stopped working, the same symptoms i had prior to the signal switch..... so tomorrow im going to follow all wires until i find the faulty signal.

when you turn the hazards on only the side that works... and it blinks at normal speed

it is your CPU it is located neer your left foot it is the black box that ticks i have an extra one for an s5 if that is what u have i will sell it for $50.00

I can't go against it being the CPU. The flasher is in it. The flasher is used by the Hazards and the turn signal lever. The wire that sends voltage to the indicators is spliced to the same wire that goes to the turn lights, so if you don't see the indicator nor the lights flashing, then it's the Flasher inside the CPU.

I know you hear it clicking, but it ain't a puttin out.

i believe i am having a ground problem since it works whenever it feels like it

psychotic7 10-06-08 11:31 PM

i will check tomorrow after work...its been storming all day with tornadoes and shit so i cant really check....thanks for the info though....so pretty much you all are leaning towards the flasher well at least there wont be no wiring to follow haha

No, it sounds more like cold solder joints in the flasher board in the CPU if you are having intermittent problems.

Grounds related to signals or non engine functions either work or don't work. They are not intermittent.

alright guys this morning i began by removing the kick panel in search of the cpu.
- once i reached the cpu, i romved it by unscrewing the only nut holding it located at the highest point of the cpu, behind the large black plug.
-Once it was out i was able to disassemble the board i had to get to, which is the bottom side cover....
-once i unscrewed the only bolt and unclipped all 4 clips, i was able to see the 7 plug board for the turn signal and hazard warning unit, and the 4 plug board for the brake light warning relay....
-Then carefully i slid the board outward.
- on the left signal blinker i saw a lot of carbon build up... So, i decided to disassemble the blinker because it is only a bolt holding on to it.
- Once there all i did was sand the carbon build up out from both ends, add dielectric grease, bolt it back on, and plug the board to the harness to test it all by itself.
AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY!!!!!!!!
So then i just put it back together carefully..... and havent had any problems yet.
I'll post pics right after i get them smaller.....

awesome.....i did the hazard lights and only the left blinkers and left idicator light is coming on so that would mean the flasher unit is bad??? or possibly i need to clean it like above? i will hunt it down tomorrow and see what happens...if it happens to be carbon and i clean it and they work i will post results with pics as well...thanks again

sounds like an excellent fix. i'll definatly be looking forward to the pics! i'll be doing this myself this weekend!!

fedede10 10-08-08 12:52 AM

hey guys if you are going to do this plz do not forget to add dielectric grease on the electric parts that you sand down, otherwise they will work for a while and fail again eventually hence they can form carbon build up much faster because the surface will not be literally smooth.....

Good post...thanks for the contribution. Dare I suggest an Archive?

mazdaverx713b 10-08-08 02:07 PM

wording with the pics and an explanation of each step might bump this into the archive..i can send it up to the admins team though...

You have the power, you are a moderator. You can copy the thread to the 2nd gen Archive as one of your powers.

i know, i just wanted to make sure it was going to be ok with the other mods and such before i added it to archive.

I started having this same problem with the left signal contact clicking very fast when I put on the left turn signal. If I put on my emergency flashers, both contacts click at the normal speed, but still no lights from the left side, or in the dash for the left. Both bulbs test good. The flasher unit looks fine with minimal carbon buildup. And since they both click at normal speed with the emergency flasher button I don't think it's the flasher unit. Ideas?

why hasn't this been added to the 2nd gen archive?
