Blew oil cooler line... engine bay coated with oil=running shitty now
 

car was running GREAT, then

blew an oil cooler line, the whole engine bay got covered in oil... tried to clean it off as best as i could with engine degreaser and minimum water...

i also noticed the front cover gasket was leaking a little...

and also blew the main fuse by touch the alternator's top mount bolt to itself.


..so the story goes=

running good
installed stainless oil lines
replaced main fuse
replaced front cover gasket
re-stabbed the cas to make sure timing was on.


now it runs like shit, bucking, hesitating, wont build any boost.

i suspected the turbo was seized based on how it was acting (like it would not build any boost and seem like it was stopping the exhaust)

but im not so sure thats it now....

any suggestions?

how long did you drive it after the line blew?

about 500 feet, then shut it off and coasted down a hill into my driveway...

i turned it off before any buzzers went off for low oil so it couldnt have done any/too much damage.

wow.. thats a tough call... the only thing you can do at this point is to make sure all electrical connections are clean and dry... I would unplug each connector and hit it with some simple green

also..
recheck the timing, if it was running fine before then it wasnt the CAS and if you think the turbo is seized, then take the inlet pipe off an spin it... it should spin freely

I would also check each plug wire with a timing light to see if they are all firing

earlier today, i took the turbo off the manifold, stripped it apart---it checked out fine.

put it back on,
hook a shop-vac up to the intercooler piping to make sure there wasnt a paper towel or something down in there--also checked out fine.

stabbed the cas 2x, the same as it was before i took teh front cover off--worked out fine.

took all the electrical connectors off--IAC, CAS, TPS, and others (except the injectors because they didnt appear to be touched by the oil), sprayed them down with carb cleaner, paper towelled, and applied dielectric grease--didnt help anything.

took the plug wires off and cleaned them up, their connections up too (and where they connect to the coils)--didnt help anything.

dont have a timing light as of now.



would the alternator cause this?(since i shorted out the main 80A fuse via the alternator) i dont see how tho...the car idles fine, and voltmeter reads about 14v consistent.

Something got wet. Try some compressed air in all small cavaties. Maybe the ign system got wet?

Another thing real quick. Were the oil lines the original ones? Was something clogging the oil somewhere in the system? Which then caused the front cover to leak.

what part of the ignition system do you suspect? i checked the plug wires/coils and they seem un-phased...

the oil lines were the original ones, the one that blew was worn threw from rubbing up against one of the T-bolt clamps on my FMIC piping. the front cover gasket was leaking a tiny bit, because i swapped a TII front cover onto it, and a small piece of debri's grabbed onto the silicone gasket maker (RTV) that i put on the front cover gasket.

Somebody is going to fish this thread up in the future and wonder how you fixed it so please do tell what you did to solve the problem!!!

threw a set of new plugs in, took time and cleaned the plug wires up so they were absolutely pristine....

so i dont know how - but they got messed up (from the oil i suppose)

fired up and runs great now
