Last night I rolled the 295/30/18 we had over to the car and I was suprised that height wise it was 1/2 inch shorter than my 235/40/17. I measured it up and width wize it would hang out of the fender on a 10 inch rim 3 inches. I ordered some bolt on fender flares and it should fit under them pretty snugg. We shall see.

Typo?
According to my chart, the 295 is supposed to be 1/2" taller...

no typo it was clearly shorter than my 235 17. it could have to do with the larger tire was used for 30k so it could have alittle wear down onner.

Can I put a 315 on a 10 inch wide rim?

Check with the tire manufacturer...
Most of the major tire manufacturers have charts online that have recommended rim widths.
There's a recent thread in the Suspension section about this.

I believe most of the 315's are ok'd to fit on a 10.0" wide rim...

The tire will get taller once you put in on a rim and put air in it. At least every tire I have ever worked with has.

The 295/30/18 on the fornt of my car now is taller than the 235/40/17 I had on the rear by 3/4".
What brand tire are you using?
btw, I have a 335/30/18 in the rear now and that is an inch taller the what was on there.

I worked in tire shops for a couple of years. At the moment I have michelin's on the front and dunlop's on the rear.
