Bets source for switched 12v without hacking

Ok im trying to install some aftermarket stuff and they all require a switched 12v source. I am thinking of using the positive slot on the green test plug and wiring some sort of splitter block from it. Does anyone have any better ideas?

the stereo power wire. how many amps are you drawing from your stereo and the aftermarket things?

I dunno, i dont think its much. i have the stereo in there and im only adding a few gauges and a shift light.

it should be sufficent. do your gauges have a seperate lighting wire? if they do you could run that to your light switch

ill check, by light swicth you mean the illuminate wire in the radio harness? I might as well use the radio harness since it was hacked to death when i recieve it.

BTW i am fully aware i spelled best "bets" in the title.

no the light switch for your headlights, so when you flip on your parking lights the guagues light up. beware, its a jungle behind there. although that might work, to be honest i've never used the illuminate wire on a radio, someone else might have to answer that question

I used the wire from the cig lighter light.

Do you think the wire from the light that light up the PRND12 on automatics would work? I am 5spd now but the wiring is still there so...

+12v is +12v anywhere on the car, bruh.

Just find a source (such as the parking light switch) and splice in from there.

I would splice just about any switched 12 volt source but I would use a wire striaght from the battery to actually power the gauges and other stuff that you are trying to power. This will leave you a point to power something else later down the road without overburdening the stock 12v switched source. You can also put in a switch after the relay to power on the gauges.

Most relays will come with instructions with it and any 30 amp relay will work.

thats what i did ... its simple, easy to find, comes on with the parking lights, and is easy to get to .

thats your easiest bet....

Dig thru here and you can find switched power...

I cant use somethign that comes on with the lights, that means my guages wont work during the day LOL

Thanks though, im probably gonna use the one from the radio harness.

I would splice just about any switched 12 volt source
and we wonder why there are problems with electrical stuff

Silverfc88 11-24-05 09:51 PM

If you would read the rest of the post you would see that you would use a RELAY. So do you go and just use any wire?

Sorry I should have been more specific. You can use the cig lighter, ignition switch, stereo, and many more that are switched from the ignition.

Alex6969 11-24-05 11:51 PM

your best bet would run a wire from the battery to a relay tied into your ignition. not the most practical for just a few things that don't require vast amounts of amperage.
