Best way to Unflood Rx7

The east side had a huge flash flood last night and today. I ran through some water so I pushed the car to a secure spot, I took all the spark plugs out and cleaned them and tried to turn it over. At first it would crank but now it sounds like the starter isn't engaging. What should I do

iwantarx7! 08-25-12 12:24 PM

someone said wait a couple days for the spark plugs to dry up.. I'm not sure if that's the best thing to do

satch 08-25-12 12:36 PM

If the engine doesn't rotate then that isn't caused by the plugs. You want to make sure the Black/White wire running to the starter solenoid has voltage w/key to start.

I took all 4 spark plugs out an the engine was rotating so I mean idk

So the engine rotates w/o the plugs but w/the plugs the engine doesn't rotate. Is this what you're trying to say?

i think he means it's spinning freely, like not building compression. because it doesn't take long for water in the engine to rust the seals in place.

best bet is pump a shitload of MMO into the engine and crank it 'til the battery dies.

make sure you have spark and fuel though, of course.

you can also pull start it with a truck and tow rope.

marvel mystery oil, am I correct? it's just raining so bad I can't work on it. I was being poured on when pulling the plugs out. My interior got a huge puddle in it after opening my door, it's gpnna smell soo bad soon.

Question if water rusted the seals in place, would coming back to the car in a few days and pouring all the oil lubricate them back to normal

it was just easier to hear both rotors spinning w/ o the plugs. A friend of mine with a 3rd gen told me to pull all 4 out and turn it over a couple times so it won't be flooded anymore. Once I had put them back in it was cranking but in weird way I think the starter wasn't catching or something.

best to do as you started, crank it a bit with all the plugs out and throttle wide open with EGI fuse removed. then inject some marvel mystery oil into each bottom plug hole and reinstall the plugs, crank the engine for about 5 seconds then let the engine sit for a few days.

This thread makes no sense.

im more confused than the OP... are you talking "flooded" like fuel? or you sucked up water?

ZE Power MX6 08-25-12 03:44 PM

I think he drove through some deep puddle.

yes, I figured out it is getting fuel but no spark on the leadings only so I'm getting a coil tomorrow

iwantarx7! 08-27-12 02:39 AM

Well, my motor is just full of water. It's gonna take a couple days of turning over to get all of it out, hopefully.

sucked up an asston of water.

my main question is what the best way of getting it all out? my car is sooo close to starting I swear. Might have to over look some other areas though.

bump? lol

RotaryEvolution 08-29-12 06:32 PM

only way to get it out is to keep adding oil into the chambers and cranking the engine over. drain the engine oil and put in new oil as well if water got into the crankcase(high oil level).

the water may have disrupted other electrical components in the engine bay as well so you need to check for fuel(spray crab cleaner in the intake and see if it starts for a few seconds), spark and compression.

and make sure the battery is fully charged(charge the battery out of the vehicle or jump it with another vehicle).
