best way to get more low end power
what is the best way to get more power out of these engines...? its great once you hit the power band but id like to have more off the line torque. whats the most torque boosting upgrade?

a v8 motor swap :rlaugh:

Not streetporting, not putting on an intake, and not putting on exhaust.

Make sure your 6th ports are closed down low.

Yeah, your car definitely needs some reliable American Muscle baby, straight from the powerblock on Spike TV.
The fat Indian dude fromm Horsepower TV,(Chuck Hanson) can do the swap for you in just one HP TV showing. POWERBLOCK BABY! |
www.wrongmotor.com will help you get more low end torque.
With a 3:1 reduction our engines are inherently torque dividers not torque multipliers. |
Wow, I might need to try the v8 swap.

hahha, you guys ALL missed the easy suggestion...
dont even bother with motor work, change out the ring gear! mazda makes a lot of different gears for the rx7 rear end. if you drop in a 4.7 or higher, you will have incredibly quick acceleration compared to the stock 4.1 gears. it will make the car feel as if it has increased in displacement. I went from a stock Integra Type-R 4.4 to an ATS 4.9 in my GSR swapped Civic and it was like having a 2 liter motor swapped in there. the change in power was immediately noticable, the car had much more torque (when measuring TQ/mph... not TQ/rpm) on demand and it pulled much harder. I'm surprised at how few people swap out the rear gear on the diff, its a wicked sneaky upgrade for an FC and if you arent racing above 120mph it wont bother you at all (...it does reduce your top speed if you leave 5th gear stock). |
Thats really fucking cool, thanks for the tip

Hmm Id love to do this diff swap, but Im worried that when I do hit that power band I'll make to much torque and just smoke the wheels up...
and that I'll be changing gears as fast as I can select them ??.. ...so will just have to do what I do now which is just launch at higher rev's. |
Now thats what i need to do!

i'll get like 8 mpg on the highway if i got the 4.7 rear gear
|
within reason, a higher ratio differential on a non-turbo car will give you considerable gains, depending on application.
this torque multiplication advantage is negated with a turbocharged car, especially one that takes a long time to spool (read: large single turbos), since you are just loosing boost when you shift... the ultimate would be to take the rally car approach if you want ultimate torque: - huge ball bearing turbo charger w/ restrictor - high compression engine - short gears and rear end - anti-lag system so you can generate postive boost at idle :D |
hmmm where do i get a 4.7 ring gear?
Im also worried about gas mileage. I am keeping mine n/a for awhile so this would be cool to do. |
now are we talking just a rear end swap, or are there gears out of something else we can put in our stock rear ends?
will it really kill the gas mileage that much? |
Just swap out to a c3 vette rear end and the possibilities are endless!! :bigthumb:
|
where can you get this 4.7 ring gear? I've only seen 4.30's as the highest.. please post a link, I would like to look into this!
|
yes please do post where you get ring gears for the FC............
/sarcasm off they are not exactly easy to get if you can even find them. the only place i haven't checked was the dealer and i know how much dealers charge for ring and pinion sets. aside from that, i'm not even sure a 4.70 ring/pinion will even fit in the FC carrier. |
