The best way to clean interior glass?
 

My car is at home, with an incredible amount of glass friendly rubbing compound smeared all over the interior glass. I'm going to rub it off when I get home. What other ways do you guys reccomend cleaning the inside glass? Is there super Windex or something? Autozone suggests 20/20 spray wash, which I have. Any other ideas? This is to get out years of cigarette smoke and the antifreeze film that got sprayed up from my bad heater core.

I have been told to use a sheet of newspaper as opposed to a paper towel to wipe down windows.
Somthing about the newsprint is supposed to help the process.
Don't know what it is, but I have used it from time to time, and it works.

If your windows are tinted - don't use windex or anything with amonia, it will eat the tinting and make it foggy. Newsprint and vinegar does work well, but you may need to get aggressive.

There is a glass cleaner that comes in the form of a paste. It is slightly abrasive and it works absolutely increadibly on the outside of the windshild, so it probably works on the inside as well. I can't remember what it is called though.... I'm sure you can find it at Pep Boys.

Some people also reccomment a REALLY fine steel wool. I've never tried it, so I can't vouch for it's effectiveness. Read the labels on whatever products you do use though. Cleaners like Fantastik are not supposed to be used on glass. Good luck!

Whenever I clean the insides of my windows, I use windsheild washer and plenty of rags. Moisten a rag with the washer, wipe the window down, and use another rag to dry it as best you can. Let that air dry for a minute, until a white film appears. Go back with a third clean rag and buff out the film, like car wax. Once this is done, the glass will be super clear.

Best thing I have ever used is Vinegar and water mixed.

Cuts through everything, leaves no streaks, and also works great in the window washer tank, cleans them bugs off, no problem.

what ratio of vinegar/ water?

I would reccomend a window cleaner for cars, you should be able to find one in the automotive section of wal-mart etc.

I use this which includes an eimann fabrik spray and a microfiber cloth for windows. It works well, but I got it in an interior kit, otherwise it would be pretty expensive.

Works well for me, the windows are really clear and you can notice they look shinier and just plain look better after they have been sprayed and wiped

I would not recommend the steel wool as it is harder than glass and eventually will put scratches on it.
Glass has a hardness of 5 on the MOH's scale
and steel has a hardness of 7

hey i heard that scotch pad works wonders on windows. i think it was only the yellow one though, or maybe a blue one. eh, im assuming the finest one. but yeah that and viniger and than clean it all off and buff with another clean rag and it should be spotless

i like invisible glass, but you have to be sure to wipe it ALL off COMPLETELY. if any is left wet it wont dry cleanly and will leave tons of spots and streaks. its harder to tell if its all off when you're cleaning the inside. if its not then you'll find out the next time you go driving in the sun or at night :P

newspaper polishes glass w/the ink

I heard the steel wool trick on some show I saw on speedvision. They said the trick is to use the finest steel wool you can find (ithnk 4 or 5 "O") He was using it on a cobra or something on the show, so I wouldn't worry about using it on your 7...

thanks for the paste window cleaner idea !!! My convertible's got some black gunk on the windshielf (probably convertible top overspray buildup) and no amount of newpaper & clearer will work. Haven't tried vinegar though.

I just love it when someone questions a known fact, but for all of you "NON" believers, here is one of many links telling you the hardness of steel versus glass. If you do not believe me ask any reputable glass dealer or jeweler.

It's funny that you mention that, Joe, since my exam tomorrow in Geology involves scratch testing. And everyone, he's right about the steelwool. Only use it if you want to apply a good coat of Rain X or something every two weeks for the rest of your time with the Rex :)

Just use a squeegee. works wondefully, leaves no residue at all.

Use a whitening tooth paste with a dab of water the fine grit will clean and polish any thing!

Vinegar by far the best and cheapest. If really grody start with 100% undiluted vinegar. Let it sit for a few minutes. Cover the dash with paper/rags to prevent possible staining and discoloration. Wip with newspapers with the first cleaning application. Then go over with a 50/50 mix to get residue off. Most comercial cleaners will leave a residue which can attract and hold particulates. This is a real issue for smokers in the car.

Anyone ever try that RainX anti fog stuff for the interior?

Yeah, I have the RainX anti fog. I was told by my dad that it's not a good idea to put inside cars, because after a few weeks, it starts to fall apart and is really hard to get off?
