Best premix to run? protek r, idemitsu, etc.
 

I've looked at all different premixes and the two.that standed out were petit racing protek R, and idemitsu pre mix-both being formulated for rotaries.

Which is the better of the two? Protek r says only 4 oz per tank is needed and one oz per gallon is only needed when racing. Idemitsiu says .5 oz per gallon.

Both go against what I normally see saying one oz per gallon every fill up which to me is odd.

Are they worth the extra money they may cost? What other premix is good?

I want the best for my newly rebuilt engine so I'm researching.

I use idemitsu, but I have also ran supertech and other stuff.

idemitsu is just my personal preference. I bet the other stuff is just as good. I just chose the idemitsu since it was designed to be premixed with our engines.

There is really NO advantage to using Japanese oils and other oils.
But just to answer his question, use whatever you can get your hands on...any TCW3.
I have dynoed using both Idemitsu and Valvoline TCW3 and there is no difference. As to your previous question why Idemitsu uses .5 oz is because it's assumed you are using the stock OMP.

It is far more strict to get inspection and pass and far more expensive to get it registered.
The "shaken" ( vehicle inspection) costs nearly $1200. (varies by shop) for an RX7 and you have to get it done every 2 years OR...if you get red tagged by police, you''re pretty much f*ucked.
Back to Idemitsu oils ...is reason why its labeled .5 oz because it is assumed OMP is still attched.

Mazda gave Idemitsu a one rotor R26B engine and had them develop a premix and main engine oil for it, there is an SAE paper on it.

so i say that makes the Idemitsu stuff superior, as it was developed specifically for the rotary. its also not very expensive.

however any oil is better than no oil, so i wouldn't stress about it too much, as long as you premix something

Use anything you can get your hands on. Ever try sourcing Idemitsu oils ??
I like the idea of any parts store carries TCW3 oils than worrying about "Holy F*ck...what'll happen if I'm out of Idemitsu".
I've never seen the papers on Idemitsu, maybe it is superior to other oils but these are daily driven/ weekend street cars, not race cars, revving to 8000rpm.

Mazdatrix has Idemitsu, and its not that expensive

Over here there's only a safety inspection, no emissions test.

I'll have to ask around so I don't go to some shop that's anal about everything, because I am removing all the emissions related stuff and they will question the fact that everything is blocked off and I have no cat if they look under the hood and at the exhaust and see there's a full exhaust. Then again some shops might not even look at any of that stuff and just check to see if everything works, lights, horn brakes etc.

The car was inspected before I had it and it had no air pump or cat then either.

Edit - I believe my 87 rx7 is 25 years old which exempts me from the emissions tests anyways :)

I f*ckin hate dealing with Mazdatrix. If I order a case of Idemitsu, they'll probably f*ck up the order and send over a case of Mountain Dew.

Mazdatrix is sketchy with their shipping prices but I've never had a problem with getting the wrong parts, they offer alot of stuff you can't get anywhere else has that's why they'll never go out of business.

Id enjoy the dew though

You can also get idemitsu from rotary performance (RX7.com).

Luckily, I am 15 minutes away from them, so it's easy to get for me. :nod:

I'd use the Mountian dew.
It's gonna Blow up anyways so at least when it does you can have a drink!

Valvoline TCW3 is what I use.

Quite inexpensive if all that's needed is 0.5 oz/per gal w/a working OMP to have the same or better lubricating protectiion of other brands that would require a higher concentration (?).

I've been using the Walmart Super Tech TC-W3 @ 1 oz/gal w/working OMP since my rebuild 1500 miles ago. Exhaust is clear under any condition and spark plugs look perfect.

I think ill be ordering some of the Idemitsu. Most of the folks I know with FC's run it.

I'm doing away with omp completely, its just throwing dirty oil in the engine to burn, of course its good from a marketing standpoint for Mazda and good for the average consumer, but for most rotary enthusiasts who want more engine longevity, and better performance strict premix has by far more positive than negatives when compared to the stock omp.
