Best aftermarket E-Fan to go with Koyo radiator?

Like the thread says,

I want to know what is the best overall(price/quality,CFM) E-fan that will mount to a 86-88 Koyo Radiator. I would like one that has a descent sized shroud. I would love to use the factory shroud but the clearence between my new turbo set-up and the factory shroud it is zilch.

Thanks

I'd say anything that flows 2200CFM or more. You also need to look into a GOOD replacement fan shroud. You can get a 3000cfm fan but it will be useless without the proper shroud.

CYMFC3S was showing us his Mariah shroud and I was very impressed with it. Click on the "1" in my sig for the pics. It's the only Yellow FC, can't miss it.

A shroud makes sense to me, moving alot of air without being able to focus it seems like it's just wasting energy.

I clicked on "1" but didn't see the shroud, maybe it's just late and I need to sleep...

I take that back...is this is....

yeah, I know a bunch of people posted pics, maybe other angles, but he has a really nice shroud.

I went with the Fiero fan that comes with a small shroud. Not as big as the koyo though.

I don't have a Koyo Radiator but I say just cut away at your shroud (I can't connect my radiator hose to the Fluidyne as the shroud was too thick). If you want to go Electrical, that's fine. A shroud shouldn't be too hard to make or cut-away at.

I cut my shroud and used the stock clutch fan. This is with a T04S on an HKS cast manifold. Managed to fit a custom TID in there too, although it's obviously pretty tight.

early 90's taurus fan fits PERFECTLY with a koyo and has a shrowd. you should be able to find one for <$50

In general I've found the aftermarket fans to be poorer quality then the OEM fans you can get from the wreckers. The PermaCool unit likes to fry motors, and the FlexALites fail in all kinds of strange ways.

Personally I recommend the GM fan as shown here:
http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/efaninstall.htm

They fit the stock (and thus stock replacements like the Koyo) rad perfectly.

I went with a Ford Taurus. I think it was a 1989 or so. Take a tape measure with you. Out of all the years I measured, one fit best. You can see I had to cut a little near the hose return, otherwise it gets 95% coverage on the rad. I had to find clips that worked. I will be happy to take pics. As well, a adjustable fan relay. Not a crummy 1 or two stage. A sweepable (Adjustable) relay for the fan.

The Taurus was prone to overheating, so the stuck some strong ass fans in them I thank BASTARD for the tip!

Nice link!!

Any idea how much air one of the GM OEM fans you suggest moves compared to the Ford other posters are suggesting?

And I was just gonna ask for some pics of a Taurus fan mounted on an RX

It is a great fan! Pulls that air like a son of a bitch. You may want to upgrade to a S5 or better alternator though. Highly recomended.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Wankler, that Taurus fan was for the 3.8 right?

There are some very big price differences for the same fan @ rockauto.com
ranging from 65.00 to 119.00, Spectre brand being the cheapest.

I pulled it from the jumkyard. $35.oo bones. There where several different types at the wrecker, depending on year. THis one just happened to be about the same dimension as the rad.

FC3S Murray 01-23-08 12:01 PM

All 88-95 3.8 fans are the same so I am willing the bet it is that one. Could, when you have time you post a front shot of the fan please just to make sure. Thanks

The Wankler 01-23-08 12:13 PM

Yes, I am going to the wrecker for lunch. When I get home, 4:00 western time, I will take pics of that and how I mounted it.

Chris
