Bent subframe studs. Redrill or reseat?
 

I have bent subframe studs from a destroyed subframe from bottoming out on something. I finally got the old one out, I was wondering if I should redrill the holes to bolt into the new subframe or bend/replace the old studs back to place? I can't move them with any hand tools.

Id say the bolts are toe'd in about 1/2 in on the right and 1/4in on the left. Just the ones in the front. The rear bolts are fine and not bent at all.

Need some quick advice. Thanks in advance.

Unless the studs are in the correct postion, the suspension will never be right.

So re-drilling would be out

You are going to have drivability issues. Replace the subframe studs. I saw a thread on it and I think it was in the archives.

well they are a long stud like a train track nail that is welded to the top of the lower control arm and goes all the way through it.

technicaly you grind the weld out and pop it out.

The bent studs are the two right at the front wheel wells, the 2 most front to the car, how do I realign them. The spacers inside the frame rails have been bent bent thats what I meant to ask. The studs are fine, but they just got knocked in a 1/2 in about on each side, redrilling wont work? I dont have a grinder, or access to a welder.

I figured if i used a caliper and got the angle of the stud misalignment I could match it to the mount holes in the front end and grind it out a small bit. The rear two studs are fine.

This would impact my front end alignment? What about the adjustment sleeves on the steering rack?

thre is 2 on each rail. Replacing one of them will not affect your suspention. It only holds the sub frame up. If you have 3 still and you grind one out you can seat a new one bolt it down and weld it back on. Repeat on other one.

Im not sure I explained it right, The studs aren't bent, the bottom of the rail is and the spacers inside the rail are.

buy a new sub frame

sounds like you may need a trip to the body shop to get that thing on a frame machine and make sure everythings in spec

I just tried to put up the new subframe, i cant get it to line up, id say its off about a 1/2-3/4's of an inch too far apart on the rear studs, the front about 1. I'm stumped like hell and need some help, I'm trying not to junk it.
