Beep beep beep beep pause...what the hell???
I installed a grant steering wheel the other day now everytime the car is started and when it get's fully warmed it beeps...beep beep beep beep pause beep beep beep beep pause and will just keep doing it. No lights are on, it's not overheating, doubt it has anything to do with the steering wheel so what the hell can my car be trying to tell me, or do I need ESP?? I can shut it off say while driving and pop the clutch and it wont come on for about 45sec. Need help guys, this is truly annoying nd dont want to rip that damn beeper out. Thanks:dunno:

It's the power steering computer telling you something is wrong. Do a search for power steering and beep and you'll find the info you need to fix it up.
It's common. |
Never would've guessed it. I should do more research next time. Ok so I ripped out the turn signal canceling thing. Life sucks without it. It broke when I was rushing the job. Can I stop the beeping without unplugging the buzzer or is that my only option besides buying a new turn signal cancelor?
|
Two ways to go about it: Either do as some people and unplug the P/S computer under the steering shaft (which will cause you to loose the variable assist), or put the turn angle sensor/cancelling sensor back in. Two tabs that stick out from it should go to holes in the back of a hub if it's designed for the RX-7. You have to line up the arrows. See FSM body electrical chapter (links in my sig.). Usually the code is five beeps pause repeat for the steering angle sensor, but I don't know what else you're missing or broke.
|
you can unplug the power steering computer to stop the beep, but you will loose power steering.
otherwise you need to fix the car if you want to keep power steering and the turn signals working correctly. please read the FAQ for FC sticky thread before posting. Many of the commonly asked questions such as the one you started this thread with are covered there. The FAQ for FC sticky thread is found at the top of this the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section. |
thanks guys, will be sure to do a more thorough search next time...
|
Look at the FAQ; it is covered in there what this means, then you can fix it.
If you open up the power steering computer, which is a little silver box just under the steering column, there is a little speaker with the word 'buzzer' next to it on the circuit board. disconnect that and it will stop beeping. I did this to stop the 5-beep pattern when my sensor was messed up 'cuz of an aftermarket steering wheel. |
I love that stupid computer. I unplugged it, annoying as fuck.

its because your steering wheel is mis - aligned.. or at least your steering sensor thinks it is.. im 90% sure the bolt pattern on grant steering wheels is diffrent then the stock rx7 ones (it is on mine but mines from japan and has a diff stock steering wheel then the ones here) 5 beeps with a 2 second pause inbetween? dosent stop unless you turn around a corner? same thing happend to me when i installed my momo steering wheel. . . i just blast the music to drown out the sound it makes me go insaine , one day im just going to rip out the dash and cut the wire going to the speaker because i don't need it

No, ADD COOLANT is a constant Buzzer... this is a beeping for the power steering
|
I despise the coolant buzzer...I just went out and bought antifreeze.
As already said its the PS CPU. Oh and just about anything that can go wrong is probably covered in the FAQ, consult it for all of your problems then hit us up :) |
If you can't get the coolant buzzer to go off, you must be incompetent. That, from my experience, is always a question of one of three things. Low coolant, a bubble in the line simply requiring a burp of the system, or frayed wiring to the sensor. I suppose the sensor could go bad, too. Still, this isn't hard stuff, guys.

I used a Grant Hub on an aftermarket steering wheel (not Grant). The hub had two holes in the back for the P/S angle sensor tabs to go into. Get a hub made for our cars, and you'll have the whole system working properly. Easy fix.
Re: The coolant buzzer...it has to be annoying so people don't ignore it. Less annoying than an overheated engine. |

Got me there...
To shut up the sensor, just ground the wire, but only as a last resort (for obvious reasons). Edit: Good to take some tools when going on a long trip in a '7 (or any other car for that matter). |

Yes, should have mentioned above:
Ground the wire only if it's the sensor and you know the level is fine (but check often). |
