BEEP BEEP BEEP......annoying

tonite my S4 started beeping randomly, single constant beeping. I turned the headlights off and it stopped, started again when i turned them back on. any ideas? i looked at beeping in the faqs and searched this forum, couldn't find anything related to headlights

Brodie121 11-17-09 11:56 PM

I think its telling you to turn your headlights off if the key is out of the ignition IIRC

its constant while driving

fstbckgt 11-18-09 12:23 AM

I just went back down to the car, I started it and it beeped 4-5 times then stopped. I turned on the headlights and no beeping.....anyone have any ideas?

satch 11-18-09 12:25 AM

Next time it happens try jiggling your key in the ignition a little bit and see if that stops it.

a few years ago my vert did the same exact thing... could be low oil/ coolant... thats what it was for me

Normally low oil or coolant will trigger a "buzzer from hell" sound as opposed to a soft sounding beep. The beep the "op" is talking about is the beep you would get if the door is opened and the key is left in the ignition. The ignition is very finicky and becomes very sensitive to the weight of the key chain which can cause it to randomly emit a beep. Even if your car does not do it you can jiggle the key in the ignition and it will likely cause the beeper to engage even if there is no reason for it to warn you about something it was designed to do. If your chain has a fair amount of weight to it you might want to lighten the load on it as much as possible even if it requires having a second chain just for the car key.

ya the PO told me to top off the coolant and check the level sensor on the rad, oil was good a few days ago but it cant hurt to check.

agsohaz 11-18-09 09:33 PM

check the level sensor my fc did the same thing

Brodie121 11-18-09 10:19 PM

The coolant buzzer isnt the same, the coolant buzzer isnt a beeping its a BUZZZZZZ. This beep has something to do with the key or the headlights i think.

ParadoxToday 11-20-09 01:21 AM

welll.. on that vert i dont know if it was a beep or buz.. but it went like this

BEEEP.. BEEP. BEEP BEEP........... BEEEP BEEEP BEEEP BEEP........ BEEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP....

adjusted coolant levels and it stopped =]

I had this happen to my FB a few months back. I lost all gauges, tach, volts, gas, temp, everything. then it started buzzing at me. I took it out and found part of the circuit board had fried. I just soldered a piece of wire between the two points it shorted out. every thing works again.

fstbckgt 11-20-09 01:23 PM

it was my key that was causing the beeping

S4GXL 11-20-09 02:34 PM

well then. i was gonna ask if your dome light came on randomly, or never at all. it sounds like a loose door ajar switch issue.

Those beeps are from your power-steering unit.

Section 15 of the FSM, "Speed Sensing Power Steering (P/S)

Well my FC does have a 1J and an mk4 supra ps pump. I have no clue if that sensor is operational, but im pretty sure its my 13BRotary key blank, its a little longer than the stock key so it requires finesse to use

misterstyx69 11-21-09 06:49 PM

Power steering sensor is 5 beeps.

Last night I finally pulled the CPU out of my '87 FC and soldered the cold joints and repaired a break in the foil (added jumper arond the defective trace.) NOW a few things that didn't work are sorta working again. The horn is constantly stuttering, but pressing the horn button give a solid blast, then returns to a stutter. There is a constant beeping when the key is pulled out in the wrong switch position. (key comes out in every position) but when the key is pulled out in the proper position the beeping nearly stops, yet I can still hear it slightly. (tryed all kinds of jiggling)
I have a decent dmm, but this is starting to look like I'm going to need an Old-silly-scope for this one. Has anyone else see this type of voltage leak from the CPU? Not sure if I should be checking the SCR's, relays, or caps. or all of the above...

Narrowed my constant beep code to the driver seat belt indicator. Now to pull up the wireing schimatic.

Ah, this has something to do with me as well....What one do I cut too keep power steering but give a good ol' finger to the beeps?

And yes its because I somehow messed up the install on the aftermarket wheel.

thatman 11-27-09 01:09 PM

Or is it that I cant cut any wire to stop the beep and keep the power steering?

You CAN cut all the wires and still have power steering. Can't say other things won't quit, but the pump will still move fluid. Better to fix the problem then remove the warning.

Why would I cut ALL of them, that makes no sense. I would want to cut the one associated with the beep. Now then obviously I would want to resolve it without having to cut anything. But I dont know how to fix that....cause when I installed the wheel I lined it up but the wheel was crooked, so then I put it on the right way and the blinker "wheel" had to be angled slightly though. But the weird part then was the problem started for like a day or two sparingly then didn't come back for like 2 weeks. then it started again and was just kind of an off and on type of thing. But lately it had gotten to be every-time I drove it soo, i did some searching around here and someone suggested to unplug it. However they did not mention that that would take off the power steering. So I don't care if the 7 says there's something wrong, unless there is a major pull or shaking coming from the steering im sure its fine. But if you can help me fix this. Thanks.
