Battery Not Holding Charge, alternator?

Hello,
My car was dead this morning. REd top optima. New belts about 1000 miles ago, relatively new spark plug wires = the only electrical mods.

I've searched a little and havent found an exact answer...plus im pressed 4 time....

I hooked up the seven to my work truck and jumped it. Let them both run for about 20min. reving both a little. When i disconnected the cables the car still ran. I turned it off for about 30sec. and it would not turn over. Later.... I tried to jump with my bro's 350z. Had the two hooked up for about 25min. and the car would not start. When I disconnected the jumper cables, the headlights would not even pop up.

Is this the battery? If the alternator had failed wouldnt the connection between the two batteries for 25min at least charge my battery enough to turn on the headlights?

I am going to get it tested after I get a reply from you helpful ppl. :)

thanks,
Rob

Easiest way to check is to get a volt meter and see if its outputting more then 13 volts. If not the the alternator is dead.
Other way is to let the car run and take off the battery post, if the car shuts off then the alternator is not putting enough charge to even run the car.

I put a little atf in and she started right up. I think the rear rotor may have been stuck??? Its chargin now so I'll see what happens when the cables come off and I turn the car off. Volts are at a little over 13.

No voltmeter?..put the battery in another car..or Put another Battery in the RX7..checks the Battery..Check the connections,at the battery,at the Bell housing, under the Oil Filter(harness is grounded to the big bolt on the Starter there).Check the Starter Main wire...check the Connection at the Big Wire going to the alternator(clean it if corroded) and also check the Connection coming off the Harness and into the back of the Alternator.
