Basic wiring question...
 

Hey I just bought an rpm switch to make my six ports electronically actuated.

Anyways, in the instructions it says "hook the switch up the battery". I am pretty sure it doesn't mean to literally hook it up the battery...so exactly where do i hook it up to? One of those fuse boxes? Which one? Do i need to buy fuses or something? If I can just figure this out, I can do the rest of the job no problem I think....

You should always fuse any additional power connection at where you make the connection.

As to weither or not you actually need to connect to the battery will be determined by the draw of the device. If the draw is 15 amps or less you can generally tap onto the 12V constant wire at the ignition switch or fuse box, again being careful to make sure there is a fuse at the connection. Anything with a max draw of above 15 Amps should be connectd to the battery, again with a fuse within 12 inches of the battery.

I assume you think the battery is too powerful to hook up something small like a switch, but that's not quite how it works. A device will draw the same current no matter where you hook it up too, and that switch would be quite safe connected straight to the battery. However like Mark said, all power connections must be fused, either by connecting downstream of one of the cars fuses or by adding your own.
