Bad/Misadujsted TPS cause starting issues?

When starting I’ll have to crank for a second, stop and then crank with my foot all the way down to get it to start. When the temp is up the idle drops down to normal, it will start to surge from 750 rpm to almost stalling and it will eventually die out. If I unplug the TPS while it’s surgung it will continue to surge for 30 seconds to a minute but then smooth out to 750 rpm steady. When it’s cold started the idle will bounce around 1200 and sound like it’s missing until it comes down and starts surging up and down.

sounds like you have either a vacuum leak, leaking injectors, or a weak engine. Compression test first (usually free) FINE tooth comb it for vacuum leaks (they can be a PITA to find, smoke test works best). If compression tests good, and you don't have a vacuum leak, take the car for a drive (30mins) then when you get back home adjust your TPS to 1.0VDC. I know the FSM says to do it in resistance, but that hasn't made sense to us since the ECU see's the TPS in Voltage, not resistance, get better results that way too.

I also know the linkage on the throttle body is a bit messed up, I’ll be replacing the throttle body soon. I’m wondering if that would cause some of the issues too. It drives fine other than the idle and starting issue
