bad ground?
 

well ive been having tihs problem for a while now but when i turn the key to start the car it just clicks and i have to keep doing this untill the starter engages anybody have the same problem or know whats wrong? thanks

my car did that once.. i just had to clean the battery terminals. dunno if that will fix your problem, but you could try it. :D

i highly reccomend adding additional grounds to your engine bay if you haven't. i could feel the difference in throttle response and smoother power delivery.

should i just do blackrx7's grounding system?

Well like theonlygreat said, check those battery terminals first, and the wires themselves. If it keeps on doing it and you're sure the connections and battery are good, try taking your starter in. I believe many autoparts places will do a free test for you.

sounds like you starter or starter solenoid could be going bad. when it wont start try hitting the end of the starter fairly hard with a hammer. if that helps it start then the starter is going bad

as for the "grounding system", just locate stock ones and replace or add an additional one in the same spot with some 12-10 guage wire. stock ones are easily visible if you look closely. generally a black wire bolted to some part of the engine and then bolted to another part of the chassis. in case you were worried any wire bolted the the chassis is a ground, so don't be afraid. add a 4 guage ground from negative terminal to the chassis also. use a bolt from one of the coils. and don't run any to the strut tower because that is really ugly. :D

If it just clicks sometimes, and sometimes works it sounds to me like the armiture is burnt/dirty.

That clicking is the solenoid for the starter trying to turn it on, but if it only randomly works then that means the armiture is lined up just right on the non-dirty spots. Take your starter to a starter/alternator shop and have them rebuild it or clean it.

This guy should be listened to *****evileagle**** IF you are sure the battery terminals are good and clean, terminals tight at both ends. There are/have been numerous posts concerning the symptom of turning the key to start....hearing a click.....repeating several times till the starter engages. Dittos to what evileagle...said if the above has been taken care of first.

Or...you can just live with it. If it gets so bad that it will not start period, and just clicks repeatedly.....then do what ....mac_dad6....said and make your way to the AutoZOne/PepBoys whatever and get another starter. That's only after you've cleaned and tightened terminals. Avoid excessive cranking of the starter. That destroys starters. They get hot enough to scorch your hand. Parts melt inside etc.
