backwards sparkplugs

Hey, I was working on my car today with a friend and we were finally replacing the sparkplugs. And the owner who had it before me put them in upside down, the trailing were in the leading holes, and the leading in the trailing. I think this might have had something to do with its crappy performance :). Anyway, I think he had them in there like this for a while. I didnt drive the car much because of a starting problem. So my question is like this:
1) what ill effects has this done to my engine.
2) is there anything I can do to reverse this
3) would this explain why my car wouldn't run until the engine had had a chance to warm up for a while. Also I'm guessing this explains my super crappy gas milage (8miles to the gallon... no joke)

thanks
chris

Make sure the wires go to the right place too, while you're at it.

doubt you'll notice any diff.

plugs may foul faster, thats about it i think. the difference, 7 and 9 is the heat index for them. using the wrong ones will foul them more quickly. if they were fouled, it would explain why your car had problems.

Old carbon fouled plugs WILL give you really crap ass gas mileage.

Switching the 7s and 9s around wont really do too much to hurt the engine. Alot of guys recommend running all 9s (Trailing) in the engine for better protection from detonation.
