backfiring on the freeway.

my car was running good and then it got warmer outside (40 degrees) and on the way to school it was fine, but i got off the freeway and it kept stalling. then when i left it was flooded and it ran good for 20 mintues then started backfiring like crazy. it lost power to the point where i had it floored and could only get to 55mph. i got off the freeway and it would not start again. so i walked home from where my car was. went back 2 hours later when the engine was cold and it ran fine and i got it home. before this the car had a little trouble starting when it was warm, but always did.

the car has no vac leaks, and a new coolant temp sensor. its an '87 na.

thanks for the help.

flooded? TPS? spark plugs?

MPLSrx7 03-12-07 02:23 PM

is it possible for the car to flood while its running? because thats what it seems is happening.

Yah, my newbie guess would probably be spark plugs. Pull them out and make sure they're not gunked up or broken or anythin...

if your injectors are spraying fuel and your spark plugs aren't igniting them, then you will have unignited fuel just falling in your chambers. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but would that be considered as flooding also?

alright tomorrow i am gonna pull the spark plugs and see if they are fouled.

From similar experience Im gonna have to say try replacing your fuel filter. I had the exact same symptons except the flooding, are you sure it was flooded?

MPLSrx7 03-13-07 03:25 AM

both my fuel filters are about a year old though, well i am pretty sure it was flooded. i pulled the injector fuse and cranked it and after it started up. so i am almost sure it was flooded.
