Backfiring??
Alright guys my car has started backfiring... The odd thing it wasn't doing it when it was a lil cooler but now things are startin to warm up a lil in the oklahoma! Also my cars IAT sensor is not hooked up one electrode is missin. Could this be the reason??? The car not knowing how hot/cold the air is going into the engine.

Maybe you're driving it harder now?
I've noticed my engine runs hotter, which increases backfiring, now that the outside temperature is a good 30 degrees warmer than when I first bought and started driving the car. This is coming from a guy who is driving an n/a with a new engine and almost new exhaust, but no catalytic converters. Really, though, are you WORRIED about the backfiring? I wouldn't be. Do you have catalytic converters? If you don't you're absolutely going to backfire. |
mine backfires a lot too. but im pretty sure there isnt a piece of intact exhaust piping underneath it what with my drive shaft blowing up and both mufflers falling off (lmao)
only backfires when i rev to 5-7K rpm and back off quick tho. which is leet if i could get it to fireball :D |
lol... I backfire all the time when I drive really hard. I was driving really hard not too long ago and the rust on my mufflers finally blew out! I have since installed straight pipes.
As for backfiring now... Who gives a flying piston? It did it before anyway.. just quieter. (and sounded more like a tick -tick -tick coming from the manifold, now its bang -bang -bang. :fawk: ) |
Backfiring is cool!!! Mine does it when I'm WOT and start to decelerate
|
give the timing a check and if its good who cares i love it mine pops some flame(the ladies love it)
|
popping a flame in nothing out of the ordinary.. and running rich is good i wouldnt worry. But if you are not more than lightly modded you dont wanna run too rich. Also, if its making an actual popping noise on deceleration even in lower rpm's, it is probably a vacuum leak. You might also experience a small power loss or at least that's what it feels like to me when i get a vacuum leak. Definitely might feel less responsive too.

Could be a possible vaccuum leak checking it out today!!

Just be proud that your car shoots fire. Most people pay extra for that
