Back Seats

im gettin a 91 rx-7 and i was wondering if some models didnt come with back seats?

jn2k108 11-18-06 09:17 AM

well most of them DID NOT come with back seats. they are usually uncommon but if you find one, its very uncomfortable to be back there

FDNewbie 11-18-06 09:37 AM

They're definitely rare, but they pop up for sale in Japan every now and then. In fact, there's a set up for sale right now. Email me if you're interested ;)

Thanks!

Almost every Japanese FC came with back seats (except for the Inifini versions).

It was basically a way to avoid 2-seater taxes.

Mine came with the back seat >.<

My5ABaby 11-18-06 11:27 AM

I've never seen back seats. Out of the 3 FC's I've owned they've had:

A. Two Covered bins (had to lift up the carpet to get to them)
B. One lidded bin and one covered bin
C. Two lidded bins

Back seats would be more or less useless. I much prefer storage bins, it gives you somewhere to hide stuff from view. I know that for someone to fit behind me when I'm driving they'd have to be a leg-less child.

i was jsut courious thank you people

Mine has a back seat... The only one to ever ride back there was my mother in law... She sits in one seat and puts her feet in the other... I cant imagine the discomfort...

Sideways7 11-18-06 06:43 PM

Mine came with nothing but aflat surface, but I just added bins last month. Basically the seats are nearly useless except for small childen or amputees. If you see a pic of them in the car, you'll see why. I think the back of the front seat hit up against the front of the back seats when all the way back.

standard on some 86-88 models, optional on the rest. Just like the BBS rims on coupes.

Small people can fit back there (think 5'3" girls). Larger people can squeeze back there if necessary (I'm 5'10" and could sit there with a seatbelt on if there were no other choices). Anyone 6' or over or overweight would have a significant problem, though sitting sideways also allows one person back there a reasonable amount of room.

The seats fold down, so there's no less room than a binless, really. You can leave small objects on the seat when it folds down, so that recovers some space if necessary. The partition is actually useful to keep things from flying around back there, too.

I just won a set of rear seat for my FC. didnt put it in yet because there is no seat belts

staticguitar313 11-20-06 05:42 PM

MY gxl still has the latch hooks on the shock towers for the rear seat, but i installed bins.

Sideways7 11-20-06 05:57 PM

Sorry, but if there is a full gorwn adult sitting in the front seat, then the back seats are useless. If the driver is short and can move the seat up, then shorter people can use them ok. And yes, sitting sideways can be done. I had to do that in my dad's Austin-Healey (similar back seats) once I got to about 6 years old.

Excuse me? I'm 5'10" and I can fit behind the passenger seat as if someone my size were in the passenger seat comfortably (since no pedals means the seat can be up farther). I can also fit behind myself driving if I have to.

That's far from useless. It's exactly what they're made for - "if you need it" seating and seating for young kids. It's obvious the car isn't made to drive around four 200lb 6 foot men, nor will it be particularly comfortable for the backseat passengers anyway, but it's safe enough and does the job.

Sideways7 11-20-06 06:19 PM

Ok, I forgot that you can scoot up the passenger seat, so I guess that seat can be usable.

Charles Xavier 11-20-06 06:55 PM

Out of curiousity, is there room in a vert to fit rear seats? I know there is a little bit of room back there under the wind deflector (or if it werent there), but have never seen any of the rear seats before. I doubt the vert was even made with the mounting points for them, but if it was... passenger torture time!!

Charles Xavier 11-22-06 02:02 AM

did i mention theyre burgundy"?

finishline 11-22-06 02:14 AM

didn't know you could get the bins either covered or lidded.
that makes me one who has two bins lidded.
how do you get to the bins that are covered? just lift the carpet?
can you even see the bins with it covered?
if so, that's a major advantage of hidden bins.

There was a thread a while back regarding this and the consensus was no. There was pictures of a vert posted up with rear seats (custom), but it didn't seem to work too good.

You can't tell they're there. You have to lift the carpet up and remove what's basically a rectangular piece of plywood over each opening. I did like the thought of having covered bins, but it wasn't that practical.

No, and we don't care.
