Back Hatch Quick Disconnect

I was talking to a guy today, and he said that there is a kit type thing that replaces the hinges on the stock hatch with quick removal pins so that you can easily remove the hatch. Has anyone ever heard of this, and where can i get me some of them...lol.

I haven't heard of that but, what would the benefit be to having a quick release hatch? for easier access for theives? or for replacing it with a lexan one on race days?

How about for just removing it? I would be interested in a quick release attachment. Seems to me it would be somewhat like a convertible.

pyro - thats what i was thinking
esspecially if i remove my ac, it would make it quite nice to have that extra air flow through the car
I think im just going to fab my own removable pins
i'll let you know how it turns out, and what i did

To be like a convertible is fine but, if they hit some bad weather, they can put their tops up. Now, I'm not saying I haven't done it my self but I live in texas and we have months long dry spells...(except for lately)

If the thousands of roadster owners can drive around without needing to be worried about rain all the time, then I think I won't have that problem.

Please let me know how your project turns out. My AC isn't functioning and I am planning to remove it. A more open FC would be cool, literally. Damn lucky vert owners.

Rx-7 coupes have a major problem of rear exhaust gases recirculating back into the cabin during motion.... IE: Lets say you have an aftermarket "stinky" exhaust, open you hatch and go for a drive down the street, for some odd reason you'll notice the exhaust gas recirculates back through the cabin/passenger area. Any idea why "verts" don't do this?

By any means, yes i've heard of the quick release feature, mainly used on race cars for easy removal of large heavy glass hatch.

well i have to get it running first, so it may be a little while, but i'll let you know.

pyrojunkie 05-03-04 10:55 PM

Actually I think reasons exhaust gases have ever make it into my car when my hatch is open is that the opened hatch catches the exhaust gases. I am confident if the entire hatch is removed, exhaust gases will not be a major issue.

do you know where i can get a kit to make it a hell of a lot easier?

Its nice that you took your glass hatch of once SOIA, but we are trying to find a quick disconnect solution.

How hard does this have to be? DZUS fasteners on the hinges and pins for the shocks.

pyrojunkie 05-04-04 02:17 PM

I really have no idea what those are. Any links?
