awful smell
2 Attachment(s)
Hi all. I have an 87 body and a 91 engine, a Hayes rotary engine, and a lot of aftermarket. I don't know if it is the racing clutch or something else, but when I shift it smells awful. I can't place if it is rich exhaust or clutch. It also seems to linger more and smell in between shifts the longer I drive. Please help if you can. I love the car but I can't stand this odor. I've had it into shops more than I can count and nobody can figure it out.
Thank you. |
I not sure about the smell, but check under your shift boot to make sure the inner rubber boots are still in place, that is most likely where the smell is comming in the cabin.

Maybe your clutch is burning up? if it can do such a thing.. The pucks on it don't last forever, but then again it'd be slipping if that were the case.
The first thing that came to my mind is that it was something spilled onto the clutch disk. If it smells like dogshit, check your differential for leaks.. i dunno. |
If it smells like burning brakes, it might be your clutch slipping. A good indication is if it takes a second to lock up when you let the clutch out. If this is the case, you might be able to fix it temporarily by adjusting the clutch plunger so that your friction zone is located closer to the floor.

where is the clutch plunger thing cause my clutch releases real high

The plunger adjustment is on the back of the clutch pedal arm under the dash. The FSM gives you info on how to adjust it, but I just screwed mine out towards the master cylinder untill I liked the engagement point.
