Autozone got me the WRONG A/C Dryer !!!

Finally got everything ... got my robinair vacuum pump (fuxking 200 something bux), Good set of gauges, Ester oil, Freeze 12 Kit, NEW DRYER FROM AUTOZONE , etc ...

Nice and hot 93 degrees out today, Super sunny. NICEEEeeeee

so I was like yeah maybe its time to "go ahead and fix up the A/C" ...

the first step, take the A/C Dryer out of its box and about to go yank my old rusty one out then ....

Wait a minute

this shit does not look the same to me (compare to the rusty one)

the rusty one has a bracket, the "new one I got from Autozone" does not.

I checked my papers and Autozone site again, yeah Im SURE I gave them the right info

Checked Mazda's parts manual, Hmmmmmm, Did Autozone sell me the one for "Dealer installed" option and not the "Factory installeD" version ?

So I checked again on Autozone's site hmm ...

It "Seems" that Autozone got their information wrong. they sell 2 different dryer for 91 NA, one is for "VIN with J --- Japan installed" the other one is for "Dealer install"

The Japan install one should have brackets weld to the dryer itself. while the Dealer install one should have a bracket MOUNT to it.

This is the one that I Got

This is the one that I THINK should be the right one

Can anybody tell me if Im right?

Im about to bring it back and Bitch at them.

Autozone gets everyone the wrong drier-so does Orielly's Auto. Kragan does as well.. Take your old one down and match it up.

yep there are 2 systems. if you have a turbo, or gxl it is likely you have the japanese system. (i have a gxl with the port installed system though, so its not 100%)

anything else its likely to be the port installed system

japanese system uses a nippondenso compressor

us is a sanden.

autozone probably has it listed wrong, at minimum, if you're really lucky neither fits

but anyways it up to you to figure out which system you have, as the dealer wont know either (the parts catalog vin feature works for parts installed on that vin at the FACTORY in japan, the port installed stuff is installed after, and thus is not in the catalog)

the problem is that the local Autozone does not have any dryer in-stock. if I want them I have to order them and I will get it the next business day -_-

So ... just get the "other one" with the bracket and Im good right ? the 41.99 one.

My compressor is Nippodenso. so yeah I think I have japan system.

I tried to put this dryer in but the female plugs on the dryer are too small. no good.

So I guess I just need to bring it back and get the "other" one and I will be good ?

or make your own bracket, the lines almost hold the thing in place anyhow, a large hose clamp and your old bracket cut off the old drier might do the trick

At first my good local auto store got me the wrong one, I sent it back and they got me another one- that one had the bracket aiming the wrong way. I also had a problem where the lines did not work, I was going all custom system so that was one more line I ended up getting made

Well like I said before I was about to just forget about the bracket and mount it up ----- but the problem is the dryer's female plugs are too small ------- wont fit :(

this totally blows ... I guess I just gonna get dress and go autozone again to get the other one ... hopefully their so called "U.S. model (VIN begins with 1)" is actually the "right" one.

bring yours with you, if not today at least when you pick it up, I bet the lines wont end up matching up

I just went through this a few months ago with autozone on my old 90 vert. The drier that has the bracket is definitely the one you need, especially if you have the nippondenso compressor.

Good luck

ordered the one with the bracket that saids "FOR US MODEL WITH VIN "1" "

Hmm ... hopefully it will be here tomorrow :)

I just went thru this with my 86 and Napa auto parts. According to what I have been able to glean from their system, mine with the attached bracket is the dealer installed system, vs. the non-bracket type which was supposedly the factory air system. I also found the fittings and o-rings were different.

I have not yet found any data on how to tell which system is which without taking the part in and comparing one to the other.

My 'dealer installed' system has the Sanden 708 compressor and the receiver dryer with the welded-on bracket. The expansion valve was different also.

That sucks :(

The drier should come today ... hopefully its the right one -_-

Oh btw, which oil you guys use? Autozone sells this Ester oil with UV Dye, I can use it to flush the compressor right ?
