Auto-x Video, Need some input....
 

Hey all,

I just got some new goodies put on and took her to the track. I noticed the rear was a bit bouncy, well actually this whole particular lot was really bumpy but it seemed to bounce the rear around more than normal. Its not something that i really noticed in the car until someone pointed it out.

Lots of other things but these are the important variables.

Tires;
275/40/17 kumho V710 all around

Spring setup;
GC Coilovers w/ 450 front, 325 rear
Tokico Illuminas, front was set at 3/5 and rear 5/5.

Alignment;
front- 1/16" toe out, -1.5 camber, 4 caster
rear- 0 toe, -1.5 camber, zero thrust
Maxed out b/c of height required for tires.

Car was really pretty neutral overall. just need some more seat time.
Any suggestions??

hmm, is 5/5 the stiffest setting or the softest?

for my AGX's, 8 is the stiffest. try to go with a softer setting in the rear next time. say 2-3?

I would definately say that your rear suspension setup is way too stiff. I like the fronts (I'd prolly run a touch more -camber in front...but that's just me)...I'm kinda surprised though as you're the only person I can remember that changed the caster angle. Anyhow I'd soften up the rear just a bit...what tire pressures do you run cuz that's very important too. Dear lord you have some huge rubber on that car :).

It's difficult to really tell anything from the video. You should try to get some in-car stuff as it will greatly improve your driving. What I did notice was that you may want to try working on your brake -> throttle transitions a bit more. It looked like you were hard on the brakes, coasted around the apex, than nailed the throttle. Obviously, this will lead to a slower entry speed (trail braking needed) and spinning tire on exit (roll on throttle). Those are basic things, I know, but huge in autocross, especially that small straight on the back into a 90 into the long straight. It sounded like you spun tires there and thus lost speed over the entire thing.

As for the suspension, remember that stiffer is not always better. Just like these other guys are saying, soften up the rears. Play with your tire pressures too as those are going to be huge. I'm not an advocate of the V710 (I like the V700 a lot more) but you should be able to wring some decent times out of 'em.

Looking at it again, I'd also try to develop some more trust in your tires/suspension. You can take some of those corners much harder. Seat time is the cure!

Im definatly going to turn down the rear struts a notch or two and try it.

I'm running 38 psi all around for starters.

Yea i was not pushing the tires or the suspension at least that I could really feel.

It may look like i coast around the apex but I was actually on the gas just waiting for the turbo to spool.(havent gotten the .68 backside yet so it takes forever)

I had way too much power for the 2 long straights as I would easily top out 2rd gear and having no problem gettin most way through 3rd on the long straight. The problem was my stock brakes could be put to the floor and they'd fade real bad so i'd overshoot the corner. cant wait til i get the new brakes on!
