auto vs manual
 

I have an '88 RX-7 SE and it's an automatic. What do you need to make it a manual? ANd i know some of you out there have done the auto to manual swap, and i am wondering is it a lot faster then the automatic?
ANd how much does it cost to do it? I am never going to the dealer so where are places to go for engine work/ tranny swaps? thanks.

im about to do the same thing with my 90 GTU. you'll need the tranny, clutchpedal assembly, starter, clutch and slave cylinder(i think) and drive shaft. someone told me that i'd be better off doing the swap myself, it'll take about 20hrs. as for price for parts, start searching junk yards. and be aware that the tranny mounting brackets are different.

thanks for the info. I don't know if i would be able to do the swap myself. maybe i could find someone selling an rx-7 that is a manual for cheap like if it's broken down or something and i could get the parts from that car. or i could buy the parts from a junk yard like you said. what do you think would be best? and you said you are goiing to make the swap to your car how much did it cost you? are you going to do it yourself or have a mechnic do it?

Look for auto to manual swap thread. We've been talking about this for the past few days. I just finished mine. Just one hundred more miles till my clutch is broken in and I can really test it out. So far, I love it. Good launching, no bogging away from stop lights, and speed any time I want!
