auto tranny stuck and im under the car help
i am trying to drop my auto tranny but it is stuck somewhere....i removed the brack in the back of the tranny and then 3 bolts from tranny to engine from the top of the tranny, the starter, although the bottom starter bolt is still there and i removed 2 other bolts on the bottom
take out any bolts that you can find, look around.. I have never taken out an auto tranny BUT I'm sure that it's just something small.. you'd be amazed at how strong a single wire can be or something equally dumb...
i can really see anymore......i mean i could start disconnecting stuff in the engine bay but i would prefer if some one could point me in the right direction
well just get under there and look for shit, there has to be something! you have slid far enough back that it's not attached to the engine at all, right?
not its still atached to the engine...do you have to push it away from the engine before it even beging to fall a tiny bit?
yes, oyu have to push it back like 5-7 inches before you can drop it down. try prying it from the engine. Make sure you have the drive shaft out of the way.
shit i think i missed the torque convertor bolt http://www.teamfc3s.org/main/factory...ansmission.pdf
#12 but how do i get to that? |
or is that bolt removed after the tranny is out?
took a screwdriver and a hammer to it and got it out almost an inch...now just to get my friend over here and pull it down....what the aprox weight?
HEAVY
it will take both of you.. 150-200lbs probably |
The manual tranny is a bit lighter. Neither is really heavy (in my oppinion) but its an awkward thing to deal with laying on your back under the car.
empty of all fluids w/ the torque convertor, the auto tranny weighs in around 150 lbs. (That was the weight when I shipped out an auto tranny I sold a while back)
Yours should be drained already of fluid and what-not, so expect 150 lbs to fall on you :) |
I've removed my tranny a few times now, genearly the rule was remove all the botls you see, then youget the fsm and check off what you've removed. theres usually a bolt left when you think you have them all out. A swift wack of a rubber mallet would break free a bunch of grease that might be sticking the tranny to the engine.
i have the tranny auto about 3 inches and its stuck...what could possibly be holding it?
bump
remove the trany/body mounts, then remove the engine/tranny mounts. Stupid little things like wires and driveshaft, and thats it.
And yes.. a wire harness could support the transmission and keep it from dropping |
You got the speedometer cable, and the vacuum modulator vacuume line disconnected?
And you rotated the flywheel to get access to/remove the 4 torque converter bolts? And you got the shifter knob off the stick in on the center console right? |
had the same prob when i removed a friends tranny
look all around there is bolts that grease has covered up. |
so.. get it down?
If you two are laying on your backs, they best way for you to get it down without crushing skulls is to: Each hold the side of the bellhousing with one hand, and then the tail end with your other hand. If neither or you are under it it should be like lowering some weights. You can each bench atleast 75 lbs right ;)
