Auto seatbelt question/issue
so just hooked up my seatbelts and i was curious because i have never had an s5 with auto belts that worked, are the belts supposed to only move with the key on? they go forward and backward just fine but only when the key is on and then either door open/closed. but if they are in the back position and you turn the key off, then open the door the dont go forward to let you out.
|
They're supposed to go the second you open the door. Key shouldn't matter if it's in. Weird...
|
so even with the key off if you open the door the go forward and if you close the door the go back?
|
Exactly
|
no, when you open the door from the inside, after you turn the car off, the seat belt will retract so you can get out, then it will stay in that position until you get in the car and turn the car onto acc. power or on the seat belts will be retracted so its like you are wearing the seat belt. same goes for the passenger, however the passenger will stay in the position of wearing unless that door is opened,

now time for me to grab some s4, or vert seatbelt and make it work... fuck this crappy stupid system lol
|
Do a search for "seatbelt recall". You might be able to get it fixed at the dealership for free.

you should be able to get it fixed for free. bring the paper because they'll try to say that recall never existed without the paper for proof. i brought mine in and had to show the paper. got the car back like 2-3 days after

I must be the only guy that likes the auto belts... :) I would feel a little more secure if I had an airbag or something.... but, having taken apart the mechanism.. they look sturdy enough. A good working auto seatbelt mechanism (when replaced for free at dealership) is really nice....
One problem with them is..... if you have a stupid ass friend like I do that thinks he's some sort of a ninja.... The seatbelts tend to freak them out.. My friend saw the seatbelt coming back and thought it was going to choke him.. so he fought back and pulled it right out of the track while it was moving... Asshole... |

Revel in your uniqueness. I suppose the shoulder belt was OK but the lap belt on the auto setup hit me in the middle of the thigh. I much prefer the full manual setup now. |
i like the auto seat belts =)
lazy people + auto belts = win |
Only reason I liked my auto belts (prior to my harness) was that i never had to worry about fixing them, being they would be replaced for free whenever i wanted.

With the key out or the ignition in the off position they will only go forward. They will only go back with the key in the run (and possibly acc) position. |
My friends just went by themselves when you opened the door... who knows. They worked like a miracle.
What do I know right? My P.O. cut my driver's seatbelt thinking it was coo... |
You should just get them fixed, they HAVE to do it for free, they will most likely try to get out of it, but maybe they will just be cool. I have done it to both my belts at 2 dealerships. I love it when I give someone a ride and they are just looking at me when I stop to let them out, "just open the door."
|
I hate reminding people to put their lapbelt on.... I always feel like a seatbelt nazi.. Other than that... lazy belts are cool. :) My car is a robot.
|
does the dealer fix the lapbelt also? My driver side lap belt gets stuck and won't release... i don't even use the lap belt =X
|
well i cant take mine in to the dealer. its a 91 auto coupe that i gutted and swapped in my 87 manual tii everything then grafted the wiring in to make the belts work. i think i have a bad cpu for the belts.

Can the recall be done a second time?
|
I'm pretty sure it HAS to be done no matter what for the life of the vehicle if it fails since its a safety related recall.
