auto seat belts busted
 

Ok so the driver side belt it totally dead, and I've had it like that for a bit now. It's locked all the way back and I just take it off and put it on. The passenger side just started giving me problems. It goes forward just fine, but needs to be helped to go back and then I can here it snap or click as if its locked back. I know there is a recall for fixing this, but I am rather busy and can't exactly leave my car with the dealer for 3-5 days while they find the time to work on this for free.

Is there a fuse that I can pull when the belt is in the back position to make it stay all the way back until I can get this fixed so I don't have to help the belt along the track as it jerks and makes a racket?

i dont know the answer to your question, but i just wanted to add that i think there is a recall on the autobelts out there somewhere. im getting my passenger side replaced soon from the ford dealership for free :) he he he

Defect: The rail of the automatic shoulder belt can wear sufficiently such that the cable which retracts the buckle assembly will become jammed in the rail rendering the shoulder belt inoperative.

Consequences: In the event of a vehicle collision, the occupant would not be adequately restrained increasing the risk of personal injury.

Corrective Action: Dealers will replace inoperative shoulder belts. Mazda has not yet developed a remedy plan for automatic belts that are still functioning properly.

Note: Owner notification is expected to begin during October 1996.

I know there's a recall, I said that in my first post. The problem is that for me to get it fixed locally might require me to leave my car with them for a few days which I can't do right now.

I got down on the floor of my car and pulled the auto seatbelt labelled fuse so the seatbelt is locked in the back position so at least I can take it on and off manually without it getting stuck half way in the track. I didn't realize there was a fuse just for the auto belts earlier, but there is. Is a big 30amp one for anyone who wants to do something similar untill they can get theirs fixed

yes there is a recall on the belts . but guess what same happened to me i went to the dealer they said ok lets run you vin #. i'm like ok go ahead .
then he comes back and says sorry bud but this has been fixed allready on you car once. it will cost you about 240 $ for parts alone.

screw them dealers ill get one from junk yard

I believe Mazda has to keep fixing them no matter what. If it goes bad again, oh well, they should stop making defective rails. There's no reason those parts should keep going bad, whether the recall has been performed already or not.

There should be a little cover on the B pillar on each side that will expose two wires. One on the wires has a bullet connector. Unplug the connector and retract belts to locked position. Now you have the two point harness mod! J/K, but my driver's side doesn't work either.

FYI, when they perform the recall, the actual work should only take a day. They will wait until the parts arrive at their shop before asking you to bring the car back in for service.

I took the whole thing out and fixed it myself before I found out about the recall.

does this recall work for all 2nd gen rx-7's? i've had my '89 GTU for a year now, and the drivers side seat belt has always been broken. i called the dealership after i got the car and asked if there were any recalls for the seat belts and they said no. i guess i'll have to go down there some day.

It deals with all 2nd Gen. if they try and fuck with you.. just get in there face.

the recall only works for 89-91 cars since those are the only ones that came with the auto seat belts. Its a federall law that faulty seat belts must be fixed by the dealer for free of charge.

Though just make sure you take everything valuable out of the car. When I had mine done in my 89 GTU I droped it off with a new system I just bought Rockford Fozgate HEadunit, punch 100 amp and a 12" sub with box. I picked up my car and it had wires hanging out of the dash where the cd player used to be and my sub and amp where bothy missing. The service guy was like do you drop it off like this? I wanted to smack him...after a long hassle with a lawer and the dealer I finaly got the money to cover the system, I was 17 when I got it done signed the release that said they have no responisblity it valuables are stolen...but I was a minor which made the legal document null and void :)

thats a bummer about your stereo and stuff being stolen. that sucks. my stereo just got ganked a couple of weekends ago. i don't have full coverage on the car so i'm fresh outta luck.
i'll have to call around and get a dealer to take care of this for me.
